On 8-10th January 2023, 27 Overseas Indians will receive the highest honour at the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention. The dignitaries to receive such an honorary award include a doctor in Brunei, an educationist in Bhutan, civil society activists in Israel, Poland and Ethiopia and others.
The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, will confer the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards during the valedictory session of PBD, 17th Convention in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. These honorary dignitaries were chosen by a jury-cum-awards committee chaired by the Vice-President. And Dr. S. Jaishankar, MEA, is the panel’s vice-chair, including other dignitaries from versatile life zones.
This PBSA is conferred by the President of India as a part of the PBD Convention on Non-resident Indians, Persons of Indian Origin or even organisations established and run by NRIs and PIOs in acknowledgement of their jubilant achievements in India and across the world.
The awardees are receiving awards by showing their optimum proficiency in different sectors of life such as science and technology, education, art and culture and much more. These honoraries include Sanjeev Mehta(Bhutan) in Education, Alexander Maliakel John(Brunei) in Medicine, Jagadish Chennupati(Australia) in Science & Technology and Education, Joginder Singh Nijjar(Croatia) in Art and Culture, Kannan Ambalam(Ethiopia) in Community Welfare, Dilip Loundo(Brazil) in Art and Culture and Education, Ramjee Prasad(Denmark) in IT and Vaikuntam Iyer Lakshmanan(Canada) in Community Welfare.
There are other awardees such as who have played their well in the distinct diaspora of life, like Reena Vinod Pushkarna(Israel) in business and Community Welfare, Amit Kailash Chandra Lath(Poland) in Business, Rajagopal(Mexico) in Education, Amal Kumar Mukhopadhyay(Germany) in Community Welfare, Piyush Gupta(Singapore) in Business, Parmanand Sukhumal Daswani(Republic of Congo) in Community Welfare, Mohamed Irfaan Ali(Guyana) in Politics and Community Welfare, Mohanlal Hira and Sanjaykumar Shivabhai Patel(South Sudan) in Community Welfare, Maqsooda Sarfi Shiotani(Japan) in Education.
