Just one day after the RERA regulatory authority was launched by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, officials of the Greater Noida, Noida and Yamuna Expressway authorities expressed hope that prospective homebuyers would come ahead and file complaints on the portal and get their core issues addressed. The Real Estate (regulation and development) Act of 2016 came into effect on the 1st of May, 2017 for safeguarding homebuyers from errant developers. Under this Act, all states have to establish this real estate regulatory authority, a dedicated website and hire skilled officials for the time-bound redressal of grievances of homebuyers. This Act makes it compulsory for developers to have RERA registration prior to launching/advertising any project. The state has formed its website where developers can get projects registered and buyers can post grievances. However, the state is yet to hire its officials and establish bodies at district levels for taking care of issues relating to the real estate sector. Prior to RERA being implemented, homebuyers had to pay a visit to the offices of the Yamuna Expressway, Noida and Greater Noida authorities for filing complaints and getting government officials to solve their problems. They can now file complaints on the RERA website directly according to the officer on special duty for group housing, Noida Authority, Santosh Kumar. However, the new and old projects which are covered under its purview will only be known when the revised RERA rules are notified by the state government. Close to 1, 000 complaints linked to home buyers are still pending with the Noida authority. Officials in the urban planning and housing department which is taking care of the website, stated that more than 1 lakh people had visited the site till 7 PM yesterday. 300 builders have registered on the www.up-rera.in website while 80 real estate projects have already been registered according to officials. 40 complaints have also been registered while 39 builders have registered their projects from Greater Noida and Noida. 19 complaints have been received by the website from Lucknow, 3 from Meerut, 12 from Ghaziabad and 1 each from Allahabad and Mathura.
