A Home that Unfolds Itself in 10 Minutes!

Ever envisioned a home that can fold and unfold itself within 10 minutes? Sounds fascinating? Ten Fold Engineering is redefining mobile living with its self-deploying foldable homes that can fold itself at the click of a button.

The UK based Ten-fold engineering designed a modular folding house that can build and deconstruct itself into 3 times its original size. This portable smart home can be transported on a truck to any place which is controlled by a handheld battery-powered drill that can completely fold up within 10 minutes.

This prefabricated unit can be expanded to 64 Sq. M. and includes 20 Sq.M. of space to store furniture.

What is Foldable Technology?

Modular construction or prefabricated homes are some of the popular trends that have captured the interest of developers. The foldable building structure is another technology that has caught on leading to constriction of foldable homes. The buildings that are constructed using this technology are designed in different sizes and styles to suit any application or geography.

Perks of Foldable Homes

  • This structure can function as an extension of an existing house.
  • The house is eco-friendly, re-locatable, and easy to setup.
  • Foldable homes are adaptable and can be constructed from a variety of materials in different sizes.

What is the starting price of this Foldable Home?

The estimated price of this foldable home is about $1,29,000 with hopes of further deduction in the price in the future.

How does this Foldable Home function?

This self-deployable foldable home can build itself with the simple push of a button and can easily expand to three times its original size. The internal fixtures are pre-installed and can be arranged to suit the occupant’s needs. This smart home can incorporate terraces or extra space on both sides that make the design even more versatile.

The colour-coded levers have specific functions to ease the process of expansion. For instance, green levers go down and blue levers go up. Despite its weight, this foldable home can be moved repeatedly. It is equipped to function off the grid with water treatment systems and various types of power systems, including solar power, fuel cells, generators, and batteries. When fully deployed, this ten-fold box bulks out to 64 Sq.M., which is bigger than a typical tiny home, has an additional 20 Sq.M. of storage, and internal walls can be reconfigured to divide the space.

Future plans of the company

This UK-based company’s new ideas are still on paper and they are searching for designers, engineers, architects, and manufacturers for the implementation of these designs.

One of their future designs is called the ‘’Tree House’’ which can unfold itself into a winged floating treehouse. The other design is called the ‘’Moot Hall’’ which can expand itself into a huge A-shaped tent.

With the environmental impact caused due to building construction, sustainable construction designs have become the need of the hour. The main motive behind the construction of these homes is that these offer accommodation facilities for people who get displaced during natural calamities.
