Ahmedabad is always known as a hub of startup businesses. Here, people like to run their businesses rather than work somewhere else. This one thing has made Gujarat a state with several startups that cater for the needs of all Indians. Eventually, the leading demand for land for these startups led to illegal encroachment of property owned by the government to fulfil the demand for commercial buildings.
In Ahmedabad, rising land encroachments and construction of illegal buildings on government property in the smaller towns have sparked the red alarm.
The State Urban Development Department issued the order again on 10th June regarding the illegal encroachment of property. Same orders were initially issued earlier this year on 10th January, but the illegal encroachment of property was not taken care of. The notices were then separately sent to all the major municipalities. Moreover, these orders were also sent to Nagar Palika of Sanand and Bavla to start the anti-encroachment program and ban the illegal construction on government-owned land.
Even a senior State Urban Development Department member has confirmed that the increasing land encroachments on the property have forced them to take a saviour action and wrote orders to every municipality separately. Well, separately written orders are more impactful and get the work done in a hassle-free manner.

In the letter, the deputy secretary of the State Urban Development Department, BK Bhoi, stated that every state officer working in the municipalities must visit each of the land owned by the municipality at least once a month. They also have to submit a proper report regarding the status and condition of the land or property.
The letter further said that, If any more land encroachments on the municipal-owned land took place, then the land would be the responsibility of the selected real estate officer in charge of that specific area or zone.
After the letter was issued to all the municipalities, half a dozen shops and under-construction buildings were demolished by the Ahmedabad Municipal corporation in the Juhapura area. It is said that the properties are worth Rs. 20 crores. This operation is a joint operation of AMC and Ahmedabad city police.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police of zone 7, Premsukh Delu, also ran an anti-encroachment operation from 4th June to 6th June on a property named ‘Muskan Garden.’ This property was 3084 sq. metres in area and was constructed illegally after encroaching on government land.
