The Smart City Ahmedabad’s mission is  – Empowering Ahmedabad’s citizens with Effective, Economical, Progressive, and Customised Governance.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs operates a project for urban renewal and remodelling entitled ‘Smart City.’ It was implemented on June 25th, 2015 by the Indian government. Ahmedabad was chosen as one of the first 20 Smart Cities in India as part of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs’ Smart Cities Mission. Ahmedabad received a 66.81% rating for the Smart City Ahmedabad Plan submitted in 2015. Despite being the second-largest city on the list, Ahmedabad ranks sixth in India under the Smart City Plan.

The Smart City mission, which focuses on over 100 cities, encourages mixed land use in area-based developments, developing walkable communities, expanding open spaces, promoting a variety of transportation options, making government more cost- and citizen-friendly, and implementing Smart Solutions to infrastructure and services. 

Ahmedabad Smart City Objectives

The key objectives of Smart City Ahmedabad’s mission are – 

  1. Solutions that are focused on certain groups, regions, and population categories.
  2. Applying varied approaches to the needs and issues of various market segments. 
  3. Implementing smart and creative solutions to solve prevalent citywide issues.
  4. Utilising preventative action measures to deal with impending problems.
  5. The development growth includes all facets of the city.
  6. A pedestrian-friendly development.
  7. To improve the employment situation in the city by offering ample employment opportunities.
  8. Utilising ICT and mobile apps for city-friendly government administration.
  9. Enhancing the city’s traffic situation.

In Gujarat, 335 smart city projects valued at Rs. 13,496 crores are being developed at various levels, with 67% of them completed.
