Energy-efficient Homes under the YSR Housing Scheme
A very innovative step taken in the construction of houses under the PMAY-YSR housing scheme is the use of energy efficiency. Indo Swiss building energy efficiency methods are being used. This was originally introduced by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency with Swiss collaboration under the Building Energy Efficiency Project (BEEP) for the massive Andhra Pradesh housing development scheme Navaratnalu- Pedalandariki Illu.
With the help of the Swiss Confederation, energy-efficient and thermally comfortable (EETC) building designs will be incorporated in the construction of the houses in the PMAY-YSR housing scheme and engineers and workmen in the projects are being trained to use EETC material for building designs.
The technology of Indo Swiss EETC works by reducing the rate of heat transfer to the roof by using roof insulation and reflective paint that reduces indoor temperature by 4 to 8 degrees and achieves a 20% reduction in electricity consumption. This technology also uses autoclaved aerated blocks, cavity walls, and hollow bricks which will reduce the net heat gain over the building. This scheme also uses blinds and rolls kept on the outside to reduce the net heat gain of houses.
Energy-efficient design strategies are also being implemented in the PMAY-YSR housing scheme and this would conform to the Eco Niwas Samhita 2018 guidelines for heat control, natural lighting along with increased ventilation for healthy living.
