After much fanfare and delight, the prestigious FIFA World Cup 2022 ended on December 18, 2022, with record-high viewership across the globe. It was a joyous moment for Team Argentina as they became the winner of the star-studded game after 36 long years, beating France in a dramatic penalty shootout. The victory was especially memorable for Lionel Messi, the Argentine football superstar because it was the first World Cup title in his entire career.
Following this historic success, Qatar University announced on December 27, 2022 that the room where Lionel Messi stayed during the World Cup tournament would be converted into a mini-museum. They stated that the room allocated to the Argentine football superstar during the Qatar World Cup would be converted into a mini-museum. The university has posted various photos of the areas they have constructed where the team stayed during the FIFA World Cup 2022 on their social media platforms.
Messi and Sergio Aguero, a former Argentina striker, shared the room near the end of their victorious World Cup fight. It is reported that the said room will no longer be open to visitors or host guests. Instead, there are future plans to turn the room into a miniature museum with all of the superstar player’s belongings and possessions preserved in all their glory for future students and tourists alike.
Hitmi al Hitmi, the Director of Communications and Public Relations at the University of Qatar, said that Lionel Messi’s room would remain unchanged and would be available only for visitors and not for residents. He further stated that Messi’s belongings would serve as a heritage for future generations to witness how great of an achievement Messi has made during the Qatar World Cup.
At the FIFA World Cup 2022, Lionel Messi was awarded the Golden Ball Award for being the best player in the tournament. And he is the only player in the history of the World Cup to win this award twice. He was also just one goal short of winning the Golden Boot Award which was awarded to the top scorer of the tournament, the French player Kylian Mbappe with 8 goals to his credit.
Messi is currently taking a much-needed break after all the World Cup high and enjoying quality time with his family (all thanks to his Instagram account). Next, he will be seen playing for Paris Saint-Germain FC against Angers in Ligue 1 on January 11. Until then, keep checking his social media accounts for updates from the king himself.
