Ashneer Grover is an Indian entrepreneur who is the co-founder and managing director of one of the largest online payment brands in the country: Bharatpe. He has been trending all over the news and social media owing to his involvement in the popular business reality TV show, Shark Tank. The businessman’s eccentric personality and presence on screen has made people wonder about the background of one of the most polarising reality show judges on TV.

Ashneer Grover’s Promising Beginnings
Born in Delhi on June 14, 1982, Ashneer can be regarded as a golden child from the beginning of his career. Always being one of the brightest students in his class, it was no surprise to anyone that he got admission to the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi on his very first attempt. If there was still any lingering doubt about the potential of one of India’s most prominent entrepreneurs, he also completed his masters from the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad.
After graduation from IIM Ahmedabad, he started his professional career in the financial sector with Kotak Investment Banking. He worked with Kotak for 7 years, where we achieved his dream of creating a $ 20 billion investment portfolio. Later, he joined American Express India, where he learned about the various investment opportunities and potential in payment companies.
His time with Kotak and American Express allowed him to gain valuable insight into the country’s financial sector and the growth model of already existing electronic payment organisations like Phonepe, Paytm, and MobiKwik. His time with American Express helped him gain a vision to be the founder of India’s largest fintech startup. However, he still lacked the understanding of how a startup works in the Indian market.
With that vision in mind, he joined Grofers, a startup initiative launched by his close friend. After gaining valuable input from his friend, he left Grofers 2 years later to be the founder of his very own startup company.
The Birth of BharatPe
After his time with Grofers, Ashneer decided to start his own fintech company but struggled during the early years to conceptualise an effective business model which would help him realise his dreams. His problems were finally solved when he met Shashvat Nakranis, an alumnus of IIT Delhi.
Ashneer then utilised the technological innovation of his co-founders along with his business know-how to create an integrated payment platform, using which a business or individual can send or receive payments through a UPI QR Code.
In June 2018, BharatPe came into existence with the aim to provide small business owners and merchants a chance to compete with e-commerce giants like Amazon and Flipkart. The immediate impact and growth of BharatPe was unprecedented, with it already competing with fintech behemoths like Paytm and Google Pay within just 3 years of its founding.
The Humble Abode of India’s Favourite Shark
The virtually immediate success of BharatPe meant that it became a $3 billion company within 3 years of its inception. All this, combined with his savvy investment acumen, allowed Ashneer to build an incredible net worth of about Rs. 700 crore. Now it goes without saying that with this purchasing power, he is sure to have made brilliant real estate investments.

The interiors of Ashneer’s house in Panchsheel Park, Delhi, have been designed by his wife, Madhuri Jain Grover. As you can see, the house has been designed in a very suave and calming way. The foyer features beige leather couches and an indigenous painting on the wall, which immediately catches the eye upon entering the house.
As we move towards the interiors of the house, we can see that it has a massive main hall which acts as both the living room and dining hall. The floor-to-ceiling window design of this room ensures that there is ample daylight exposure, and anyone can enjoy the quaint views from the windows.
This living-dining area also features a modern furniture design setup with plush beige sofas and a classy 10-seater dining table. Further, the textured wall and cabinet of the dining area make for a regal outlook.
The interior of the living area is further accentuated with a glass centre table and multiple paintings adorning the cream-coloured walls. Additionally, the room is also decorated with ornate lamps in every corner.
The crowning jewel of this house is truly the wooden and glass bar with bar seats. This corner of the room is sure to make for some fun and relaxing times whenever needed.
