“An era of gender equality and mental health has overseen the movie Barbie foster a place in the hearts of the audience. Well, I was not a very big Barbie fan initially, but when I got my first doll, I would brush her hair, and dress her up. In turn, it made me feel beautiful about myself! I clearly remember that those dolls weren’t priced ordinarily and we belonged to a middle-class section of the society. My parents really had to work hard so they could gift me this fancy toy-like companion”.

The Story
The doll was made with the idea to please men! Yep, that’s right. It started with “Bild-Zeitung,” a German newspaper and a male seductress cartoon character “Bild Lilli”. It was so popular amongst men that it later formed a 3D shape as a doll.

This attracted the attention of little girls like Ruth Handler’s daughter as well. Later, she and her husband Elliot Handler (the co-founder of the company Mattel) revamped the character of the doll and gave birth to a new doll in the world – Barbie.
To make things interesting, they introduced her boyfriend “Ken”. After a good run, they broke up the couple and crafted the doll into a self-sufficient, confident and creative Barbie. She was fearless, with a car, no partner, and a house; everything your independent self would want!

If you’re done watching the movie, you know for sure that Barbie’s Dreamhouse had a little makeover. When Barbie was away, Ken became the host of the house and made it into “Kendome Glory,” or Ken Dreamhouse. Even if the house is pink, ‘Kenergy” managed to make it a Men’s Villa.
You will find long strips of stairs navigating a way around the house. Don’t forget to wear your sunglasses because the fascinating blend of pinks and the glamour of the house will daze you!

The outside deck features a 10-seater sofa and a centre table with artificial firelight. We then have an artificial BBQ and cocktail counter—where all the Barbies and Kens keep their drinks and grill their plastic meat.
Parallel to the pool, a lush garden is beautifully created with beach chairs, surfboards and a photo booth. On the other end, they have another lounging area. Now, in the middle, you will spot the main entrance with an old school “saloon” gate decorated with the house’s name and image.
Barbie/Ken or Your Bedroom

What’s inside is pretty much the real deal! Your first step will be in the bedroom. There are a lot of elements in the bedroom, so we are going to bullet-point them:
- The bed is in the centre of the room: A King-size pink bed paired with a horse-printed bedspread and pillows. You will also find two furry cow textured pillows, two leather pillows and one small hairy-furry kinda pillow in yellow, perfectly complimenting all shades of pink in the room.
- Both the sides and the top of the bed are decorated with masculine items like hats, artificial TV, stereo, mini fridge and more.
- A massive Ken and Barbie wardrobe is on the left side of the room. It feels like a mini walk-in closet when you open both doors. You can try out the fun clothes, accessories, footwear, and other articles inspired by the characters of the movie.
- A full-sized mirror and a dressing table on the right with artificial perfumes and jewellery on the table. You will also find a decorative set of bull horns fixed above the dressing table.
- Animal skin, like furry carpets, is used to add the “man” on the furry girly pink floor.
Its the Time to Disco

The next site of the house; the second-floor disco tech, is also very detailed. DJ set, big disco ball, artificial Ken’s favourite records, multicoloured floor and foil curtains. And, of course, rollerblades for your fun. The host, Ryan Gosling a.k.a Ken will teach you a few steps to give you the nightlife experience of the Barbie world. On the very same floor, you will also find a fun slide that will toss you straight into the infinity pool.

The top floor, or the third one, comes with a home gym and the third lounge area of the home with a mini beach. While the lounge area is excellent for some sunbathing, stargazing and beach views, the gym will give you the vibe of a “wrestler in pink”. Pieces of equipment like bar bill, ropes and dumbbells, alongside game sets of ping pong and basketball are there to enjoy. You will also see barrels of fake protein powder.
I don’t want to break your heart, but the original set used for the movie Barbie is very different from the Dreamhouse. The Barbie Dreamhouse in the movie is smaller but with more rooms. It has a living room, a bath, a kitchen, a walk-in closet and more. It also has connecting houses of other Barbies as well! However, the elements and the essence of the character remains the same.

The Stay and Bookings

The promotional stay, which includes Ken on the 21st and 22 July, but the property is available throughout, so you can go there anytime you want. As per the website, this stay is not a contest. Even though it is a doll house, you will find the following amenities during your stay –

- Pack as many clothes as you can as Barbies don’t use washing machines.
- Carry your own hair dryer, bathing essentials and other things you need to keep yourself Ken and Barbie fresh.
- A doll house is made to admire, so there is no private entrance to the property.
- Malibu is generally a mix of hot and cold, thus keeping warm items with you as there would be no heating.
- The official website has only displayed information about the first stay. We are not sure about the price and stay detailed afterwards.
- The brand only offers expenditure of the first stay under the bookings. Airbnb will not sponsor travel, shopping and activities.
- Lastly, as per our experience on the website, the location is packed till June 2025. But we recommend you keep an eye on the website to know more about the bookings.
