Bengaluru’s BBMP Approves Rs 100 Crore Plan to Expand Key Roads in Yelahanka Zone
In a bid to tackle traffic congestion and cater to the increasing volume of vehicles in Bengaluru’s outskirts, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has given the green light to a Rs 100-crore project to widen eight major roads. Of these, six projects will take place in the Yelahanka zone, a move aimed at enhancing connectivity to the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), a vital transit hub.
To begin with, Rs 50 crore will be allotted for preparatory activities such as creating detailed project reports, land acquisition, bulldozing roadside structures, and resurfacing existing roads. The remaining Rs 500 million will be utilized for the completion of the expanded roads. These crucial roadworks have been included in the BBMP’s infrastructure development budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year.
Bengaluru Traffic Police Implements Temporary Restrictions on Outer Ring Road
Pending the completion of the widening project, Bengaluru’s traffic police have taken the initiative of implementing temporary restrictions on a stretch of the Outer Ring Road (ORR) in East Bengaluru. These measures are targeted at alleviating traffic congestion in the area.
Effective from today, drivers heading towards Whitefield via Kundalahalli Gate from Marathahalli Bridge will be required to make a U-turn at Karthiknagar Junction. Likewise, individuals traveling towards Jeevika Hospital and Chinnappanahalli can pass through Karthiknagar and make a U-turn at Doddanekkundi Junction, making use of the Karthiknagar service road to reach their destinations.
It is worth noting that these diversions will remain in effect until further notice, providing a means to optimize traffic flow along the affected routes.
Working Towards a Better Infrastructure and Commuter Experience
Bengaluru’s growth and development have presented several infrastructure and traffic challenges. The combined efforts of the BBMP and traffic authorities aim to tackle these issues head-on and provide a smoother commute for residents and visitors alike.
By expanding key roads, particularly those in the Yelahanka zone, the BBMP is laying the groundwork for improved connectivity to the Kempegowda International Airport, thus ensuring a more efficient and convenient travel experience for air travelers.
Simultaneously, the temporary restrictions implemented by Bengaluru’s traffic police on the Karthiknagar stretch of the Outer Ring Road are designed to relieve traffic congestion in the area. By redirecting traffic along specific routes, the authorities hope to achieve a better flow of vehicles and alleviate the pressure on existing infrastructure.
These initiatives, backed by the BBMP and traffic authorities, exemplify a proactive approach to managing Bengaluru’s infrastructure requirements. As the city continues to grow and expand, it is vital to address congestion and road capacity in a strategic manner.
