Bengaluru’s Metro Network Set to Expand, Bringing Improved Connectivity and Sustainable Mobility
Bengaluru, one of India’s fastest-growing cities, is all set to enhance its metro network by undertaking a major expansion project. With a vision to improve connectivity, decongest road traffic, and promote sustainable urban mobility, the Namma Metro initiative aims to extend the total length of Bengaluru’s metro network to 175 km by 2026.
The Namma Metro Expansion project – Connecting Hubs and Promoting Accessibility
The expansion plan involves the construction of new metro corridors, including the Purple Line and the Outer Ring Road-Airport Line. These proposed lines will connect major city hubs, commercial centres, and residential areas, significantly easing travel for the people of Bengaluru. With these additions, the citizens can look forward to enhanced accessibility, reduced travel time, and a more efficient transport system.
The project highlights the establishment of modern metro stations, reflecting a commitment to providing a comfortable and seamless travel experience for commuters. Additionally, the integration of this expanded metro network with existing bus services will further facilitate ease of travel and ensure smoother transfers between different modes of transport. Focus is being given to the inclusion of last-mile connectivity options, which will ensure that commuters can conveniently travel to their final destinations, even after alighting from these metro stations. The overall objective is to create a well-connected transport system, improving the ease and convenience of travel in Bengaluru.
