The decision was taken based on the stadium’s impressive maintenance and availability of world-class sports amenities. Currently, as the destination is still brewing with multiple other facilities, it fits the most for swimming, football and hockey tournaments. There have been over a dozen International Hockey Tournaments. Eventually, the Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023 will be the biggest sports event in the past 5 years.

Odisha has the only stadium where a bouquet is established for high-performances dedicated to hockey, swimming, football, athletics, weightlifting, sports science and badminton, in partnership with leading corporates like the Tata Group, JSW Sports, and Reliance, among others.
For 5 years, Odisha has done a commendable job towards not just zonal, national or international sports events but progressively planning practice sessions and cooperating with players have also witnessed their cumulative success.
Odisha has collaborated with myriad welfare schemes to be a part of their support system to increase the calibre and achieve sports’ identity.
The Khelo India State Centre of Excellence and the Abhinav Bindra Targeting Performance Centre are those parts of the stadium with massive areas for training professionals and high-end machinery. HPC (High-Performance Centres) for badminton will soon be ready for the athletes in the coming days.
Recently, the Kalinga Stadium is also going through some construction works for five development projects: Davis Cup standard tennis court, aquatic centre, hockey centre, staff accommodation and India’s first-ever indoor game centre.
Asmita Barla, captain of Odisha senior women’s hockey team, said, “With the new infrastructure for hockey coming up, particularly at Sundargarh and Bhubaneswar, we are sure to have a larger number of players from the state representing the country.”

- Bhubaneswar’s Kalinga Stadium has held the Biju Patnaik swimming pool complex, which the Junior Aquatic Nationals hosted.
