Lights, Camera & Action: Cillian Murphy’s Home & The Man Himself

Beyond the Spotlight Cillian Murphys House

Imagine this: It’s a sunny and rather boring day. No wonder these days are when you feel like treating the cinephile in you with some good entertainment. And the next thing you know, you and your friends are sitting in a dimly-lit cinema hall, waiting for the cinematic masterpiece before you to unfold.

And as the commercial breaks end, the excitement takes over, and you know the revelation is about to begin! That’s the usual drill, ain’t it – you get a high dose of entertainment once a week and then you return back to your quotidian life. Not so surprisingly, for most people, this is how the weekends look like! Watching cinema on (cough) weekends is perhaps the only silver lining for many movie enthusiasts that helps them survive through the daunting week.

Speaking about movies and entertainment, we will look into some unspoken chapters of the legendary actor Cillian Murphy’s lifestyle and home. However, before you go ahead and put a tag on the word, actor, let us tell you this one will not fit your usual definition of an “Actor”.

This one takes his job just a bit too seriously. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have witnessed cinematic gems like

Oppenheimer, where Murphy played one of the greatest scientists the world has ever witnessed, who paradoxically, in his journey to make the world’s first nuclear bomb, gets conflicted with his own conscience.

The Batman Trilogy, where he aced his performance of being a psychopath villain,

Dunkirk – a world war II drama,

and how can we not name Peaky Blinders – the story of a war veteran turned gangster.

And the list just goes on.

Know what’s common in them all? In each of the above-mentioned cinematic masterpieces, Murphy has played monumental roles with his somewhat poignant take, and we can’t imagine any other actor doing justice to them. His dramatic expressions + undeniable acting skills are his arsenal with which he charms, persuades and brings magic to the celluloid.

The Man Who Disrupted the Definition of Acting for Good

Born and raised in Douglas, Ireland, Cillian grew up in a close-knit family with a passion for art from a young age. Since his early days, he loved doing theatre and somehow believed that this line of work was his true calling.

It was his learnings in theatre that, later on, helped him in his movie career as an invaluable asset. Then, in 1996, he made his debut with Disco Pigs (a romance drama), and over the next years, he landed small roles in films like Sunburn, and The Trench, where he made his presence felt with his brilliant craft. However, the movie 28 days later, a story of a post-apocalyptic world survived by zombies, opened the doors of success for him. From 28 days later to Oppenheimer’s generation-defining performance, Murphy has seen and done it all. Over the years, he has climbed to the top of the movie-making food chain and rightfully so.

He is one of those artists who never considers himself a star. According to him, he is just a performer who is hungry for work. In an interview, he said that he loved performances that can make an enormous impact on the audience and could make them think. For instance, to prepare for the role of Oppenheimer, Murphy actually read the Bhagavad Gita so that he could do justice to his character.

Although he frequently attends film festivals, yet he manages to live a lifestyle that is not of much interest to the paparazzi and never divulges much about his personal life. He is not even present on any social media platforms. A sure sign of a person who prioritises his peace over the chaos of social media.

Cillian’s Splendid € 1.7 million Home in Monkstown

“It’s kind of an Irish story to move away, do your thing and come home; that seems a common narrative for Irish people.” The ace actor said when asked about his decision to move to Ireland.

For about 14 years, Cillian Murphy, 47, along with his wife Yvonne McGuinness, who is a visual artist, and two sons, Malachy and Aran, lived in London when, one day, they decided to pack up and move to Dublin, Ireland in an opulent house.

The whopping €1.7 million home (approx figure) is a period home sprawling across 3,444 sq. ft. built in the 1860s. According to Sherry FitzGerald, who sold the home, the beautiful structure is a great example of a Victorian terraced residence with all its original features still intact, spick and span.

The home’s notable exterior features include a huge garden and unique architectural designs. Interestingly, his home has no internet connection due to his minimalistic lifestyle. This tells us that he is the kind of person who enjoys living a very private life with his family.

The house consists of six double bedrooms, several fireplaces and a drawing room. The rooms are impressive, with Victorian-era animal wall hangings, iron fireplaces, and a open swimming pool overlooking the porch area. After purchasing this lush property, the Peaky Blinders actor also upgraded it.

The house is close to the sea, and the area has various top-notch amenities like yacht clubs, parks, and schools. Owing to this, houses in the same area have been sold for up to €3.6 million. However, it is still unclear if Cillian has purchased this house as an investment or to live in the long run.

The Main Living Room

The living room has huge ceilings, a glistening chandelier, elaborate fireplaces, large windows overlooking the vast greenery, and beautifully decorated walls with patterned wallpapers, books, and other decorative items. The spacious living room welcomes the sunlight making it a fine place to read a good book or savour tea in the afternoon. The entire room depicts certain orderliness and is just the perfect space where the actor spends quality time with his family and friends. It won’t be an understatement to say that the room looks like a page from a Jane Austen novel.

Cillian Murphy’s: A Man of Great Taste

Cillian Murphy’s home is undoubtedly a fine example of skillful architecture. The neat and Victorian era home reflects his calm and introverted personality.  Moreover, the reason why Cillian bought his home in Monkstown is owing to its thoughtful beauty. Indeed, Monkstown is a breathtakingly beautiful village located between Blackrock and Dun Laoghaire. Here one can find a wide variety of restaurants, shops, pubs, attractions and events; way more than enough to keep everyone entertained.

Now a Bit About Cillian Murphy’s Lifestyle

Even with an estimated net worth of a whopping $20 million, the A-lister lives a very simple lifestyle. Not many people would know, but he was a music junkie in his earlier years. In his youth, he and his brothers used to play in various bands, out of which one of the most successful ones was the ‘Sons of Mr Green Genes’. They were about to sign a contract with a famous record but declined at the last minute.

Talking about his love for cars, he owns several of them. Audi A8L, Audi Q7, Lexus RX450 and Mercedes S Class are a few of the notable four-wheelers the Oppenheimer star owns. Our hero also involves himself in various philanthropic activities time and again. Earlier, he donated a cap from Peaky Blinder’s 5th installment and an overcoat from the 3rd installment of the show to a cancer hospital in London. The charity money from the sale of these was used in the care and medication for the children.

And…Cut!

Often noted by critics for his heavy-weight performances, Cillian Murphy is no less than a living cult. From his applaud-worthy acting in 28 days later to Oppenheimer, every performance by Cillian has been very convincing. They make you think, ponder, challenge your intellect and contemplate your beliefs about life and everything in between. A sign of a true actor and a beautiful human being indeed!

And after the smashing success of Oppenheimer, Cillian Murphy is all set to dazzle his audience again with his noteworthy forthcoming projects. If reports are to be believed, the Oppenheimer star will take up Thomas Shelby’s mantle again in an upcoming Peaky Blinders movie. However, whether the project will go on the floor this year is not yet confirmed. Well, we can only hope for the best because who wouldn’t love to watch Thomas Shelby delivering back-to-back powerful dialogues on the big screen? Again.
