“Delays Stall Water Metro Service Opening”

Water Metro Inauguration in Kochi Delayed due to Technical Issues

The highly-anticipated Water Metro service in Kochi, which was set to connect Mattancherry with the High Court terminal via Willingdon Island, has faced a setback in its inauguration plans. According to officials, technical issues in completing necessary works have caused a further delay in the launch of the service. The inauguration, originally scheduled for the last week of December, is now expected to take place in January or February of the upcoming year.

Commissioning of Terminals Delayed

Officials from Kochi Water Metro Limited (KWML) revealed that certain crucial aspects of the project remain unfinished. At the Mattancherry terminal, structural works and the installation of floating pontoons are yet to be completed. Similarly, the pontoon installation at the Willingdon Island terminal is also pending.

Additional Boat Delivered by Cochin Shipyard Limited

Despite the delay, progress has been made to enhance the Water Metro service. On Monday, Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) delivered an additional boat to KWML. Currently, KWML operates a total of 16 boats across five different routes, enabling convenient travel within the city. One of the recently opened routes is the High Court-Fort Kochi route, making it easier for individuals to commute between these areas.

Response to Passenger Demand

Sajan P John, the CEO of KWML, acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the delay in the Water Metro’s inauguration. However, he emphasized that the service frequency would be increased once launched. This adjustment aims to cater to the passenger demand more effectively, avoiding long queues at terminals, especially during peak hours.

Paving the Way for Convenient Urban Transportation

The Water Metro service in Kochi has generated significant excitement among residents and visitors alike. With its extensive network of routes, it promises to connect various parts of the city seamlessly. The foundation of this venture rests on the provision of efficient and reliable transportation services, thereby transforming the way people travel within Kochi.

Looking Ahead

While the delay in the inauguration of the Water Metro service in Kochi may be disappointing to some, further work is being carried out to ensure a smooth launch. As KWML continue their efforts to complete the necessary works, residents eagerly await the day when they can enjoy the convenience and efficiency of this modern urban transport system.
