The New Delhi airport – Indira Gandhi International Airport was marked as the 10th busiest airport in the world in the month of October. In the list of the top 10 busiest airports in the world, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport stood first, followed by Dubai, Tokyo Haneda, Dallas and Denver airports.
The report was provided by the aviation analytics firm OAG, the assessment of which was compared to the same month in 2019, before the pandemic. The assessments are based on scheduled airline capacity in the current month. Total capacity, including local and international, is used to build a list of the busiest airports in the world.
Six of the top 10 this month were among the top 10 busiest in the world in October 2019. The airports that have seen their rankings rise, putting them in the chart for busiest airports now, are Dallas/Fort Worth (up from 12th to 4th), Denver (up from 20th to 5th), Istanbul (up from 13th to 8th), and Delhi (up from 13th to 10th) (from 14th to 10th).
The Delhi airport, officially known as Indira Gandhi International Airport, has 34,13,855 seats. Where no other Indian airport was added to the list of busiest airports, the Delhi to Dubai and Mumbai to Dubai routes were among the top ten busiest international routes. The busiest airline routes are those with the most scheduled tickets from October 2021 to September 2022.
The coronavirus pandemic significantly impacted the Indian aviation industry, which is now recuperating. As a result, planned international aircraft services will be suspended for over two years starting in March 2020.
