As per the Central Pollution Control Board, the AQI data revealed the worst condition of Delhi’s air quality, i.e., 218. The AQI gave it a thorough check on an average of 24 hours at 8:05 am.

For a long time, Delhi was reported to be seen with the cleanest air after the sudden October rain spell. Now, the AQI (Air Quality Index) is seen as disappointing just a week before Diwali. According to the 24-hour average AQI statistics from the Central Pollution Control Board, Delhi’s air quality was 218 at 8:05 am, which is considered poor.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that Delhi’s minimum temperature on Sunday was 19.1 degrees Celsius, and its maximum temperature was around 32 degrees Celsius. It was also highlighted that around 8:30 am, the relative humidity reading was 91%. The city has experienced a slight chill over the past three days, with the high temperature hovering between 24 and 27 degrees.

At the same time, the air quality index lying between 0 and 50 is referred to as good, 51 to 100 is considered satisfactory, 101 to 200 is reasoned as moderate, 201 to 300 is considered poor, 301 to 400 is considered very poor, and 401 to 500 is considered severe.

The air quality in the National Capital Region (NCR) falls each year, which is partly blamed on stubble burning. To check the agency’s Delhi-NCR preparedness for proper air pollution management during winter, Bhupendra Yadav, Union Environment Minister, held an online meeting with the environment ministers of Delhi, the National Capital Region, and Punjab. The meeting was held to be certain of the coordinated actions and assistance of all the stakeholders to counter air pollution that affects the entire Delhi-NCR area.

Simultaneously, the commission for air quality management in adjacent areas (CAQM) and in Delhi-NCR has issued a direction to all the stakeholders, which includes project proponents of construction and demolition (C&D) sites and industries, to rigorously avoid its lawful norms in the coming days to sidestep penalties and prosecution.

The commission also urged citizens to carefully and precisely adhere to the actions given in the “citizens charter” at each step of the GRAP (Graded Response Action Plan) in the coming days. It suggests a number of norms to be put in place at once as Delhi’s air pollution levels reach a particular threshold. As the air quality index worsens, the post-harsher.

Note: During the polluted air quality period in Delhi, firewood, coal, and diesel generator sets might be banned.
