Dubai’s Recent Development in Conversion from Street-Hailing to E-Hailing Taxis

Dubai is widely known as one of the greatest countries for immigrants for a variety of reasons, and deservedly so. Life in Dubai is of higher quality than in most nations worldwide. Dubai cities are frequently recognised for encouraging sustainable growth and environmental protection while minimising carbon emissions. This country never fails to impress, in terms of development. Let’s see how?

On March 19th, 2023, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced switching conventional taxi services to E-Hailing, with the aim of converting Dubai into the world’s most competent country. Hala E-hailing was introduced in 2019, giving 11% of total taxi journeys in 2020. A year later, that figure had risen to 18% and will reach 30% by 2022. Now, on a daily basis, the percentage of trips are increasing.

E-hailing has become the most effective method, offering taxi e-facilities with demand and customers hassle-free taxi services. This process has improved the productivity of taxi services in Dubai by automating searching for and scheduling rides. The goal of this transition is to minimize waiting time to less than three and a half minutes, Also, this will save carbon emissions, fuel consumption, and decrease extra waiting time.

Moreover, advanced science and technology will combine to reduce the average charging time from 8 to less than 1.5 hours. They are promising that the charging period will decrease more in the future, and the use of hydrogen fueling stations will be considered environmentally beneficial.

In addition, customers will enjoy fuss-free rides with smooth e-payment, optimised route maps, trip-sharing possibilities, and visibility of driver and car information. Moreover, the chance to give feedback to both the ride and the driver. These services assist the RTA department in monitoring the rides in real-time and allow mass transit customers to easily reach their final locations. Also, it will decrease the dependency on private vehicles. The development will include specific zones for e-hail services. Other taxis are available as well as additional parking spots for both street-hail taxis and e-hail vehicles.

Dubai’s RTA has approved a proposal to convert the city’s taxis into 100% renewable energy vehicles by 2027. Also, Dubai Taxis and franchise business taxis will be a combination of electric and hydrogen-powered in the next five years.
