Dubai’s DP World Boosts Supply Chain Solutions in India with New Cochin Economic Zone Terminal

Dubai-based logistics company DP World has announced the commencement of operations at its third facility in India, the Cochin Economic Zone. This new establishment aims to provide enhanced supply chain solutions to businesses engaged in international commerce.

Kerala’s First Free Trade Warehouse Zone: Occupying an impressive 75,000 square feet area, the Cochin Economic Zone is the first free trade warehouse zone (FTWZ) in Kerala. Strategically located within the Vallarpadam terminal’s Cochin Port, this economic zone ensures seamless connectivity with DP World’s multimodal logistics network.

Completing DP World’s Trilogy of Economic Zones in India: This latest addition joins DP World’s portfolio of economic zones in India, which includes the Nhava Sheva Business Park (NSBP) in Mumbai and the Integrated Chennai Business Park (ICBP) in Chennai. Together, these three economic zones aim to streamline supply chains, resulting in significant cost savings and heightened connectivity opportunities for global trade.

The Business Advantages of Cochin Economic Zone: The Cochin Economic Zone serves as India’s first transhipment terminal, greatly enhancing the capabilities of the Cochin Port. With its integration of 67 value-added services, businesses operating within this economic zone gain a competitive edge in their supply chain operations. Ranjit Ray, Senior Vice President of Economic Zones for the Middle East, North Africa, and Subcontinent at DP World, highlighted the company’s objective in establishing economic zones: to streamline supply chains, boost global trade opportunities, and facilitate seamless connectivity. In Cochin, DP World’s integrated solution adds value by linking ports to the broader supply chain through multimodal connectivity. Ray also emphasized that the new facility in Cochin would not only support export-import (EXIM) oriented businesses but also present opportunities for global companies seeking to enter the Indian market.

Efficient Connectivity and Accessible Transportation: Apart from its state-of-the-art infrastructure, the Cochin Economic Zone offers outstanding connectivity options. The facility enjoys rail access within the port grounds and effortless connection via three national roads. These include NH 66 connecting to Mumbai, NH 544 connecting to Salem and Coimbatore, and NH 85 connecting to Rameswaram via Madurai. The proximity of the Cochin airport, situated approximately 35 km away, further enhances connectivity and accessibility for businesses operating within the economic zone. With the inauguration of the Cochin Economic Zone, DP World further solidifies its presence in India’s logistics sector. The company’s commitment to streamlining supply chains and fostering global trade opportunities reaffirms its position as a leader in the industry. As businesses utilizing the economic zone benefit from enhanced connectivity and seamless integration, a significant boost to international commerce in the region is anticipated.
