Traffic Regulations in Place for the Dwarka Expressway Inauguration Ceremony by PM Narendra Modi on March 11, 2024.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a momentous event, is joining hands with Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to unveil the Haryana segment of the much-awaited Delhi Dwarka Expressway in Gurugram. This eight-lane express marvel, India’s first elevated highway, promises smoother travel and less congestion between Delhi and Gurugram, marking a significant milestone in the region’s transportation history.
Discover India’s unique engineering marvel: a 9-kilometer stretch of elevated highway, 34 meters wide on a single pillar, featuring eight spacious lanes. It also has the longest (3.6 km) and widest urban road tunnel. It’s a first in our country and a testament to innovative infrastructure. About 10 km of the expressway are in Delhi, whereas 19 km are in Haryana. Four multi-level interchanges will comprise tunnels, an at-grade road section, an elevated flyover, and underpasses.
The Haryana stretch is strategically divided into two key sections: one stretching from the Delhi-Haryana border to Basai ROB, covering 10.2 km, and the other from Basai ROB to Kherki Daula, measuring 8.7 km. This development is a giant leap towards enhancing the region’s connectivity and, most importantly, easing the daily commute for many, promising brighter, less congested travel in the future. An exhibition will follow this unveiling of the stages of construction or challenges faced by the National Highways Authority of India.
This new roadway will be an alternative link to Indira Gandhi International Airport via a shallow tunnel. It connects Dwarka Sectors 83, 84, 88, 99, and 113 with 21 and the newly proposed Global City in Gurugram District.
Safety mechanisms like automated tool collection booths and an ITS (Efficient Transport System) will be installed. The project is expected to use about 200,000 metric tons of steel, 30 times more than what was used for the Eiffel Tower, and 2 million cubic meters of concrete, six times the amount used in the Burj Khalifa.
