Viklangta Pension 

Another great scheme forwarded by the Bihar Government is the Viklangta Pension scheme. Also known as the Indira Gandhi Disabled Pension Scheme, this subsidy was constructed for the disabled during the financial year 2009-10. The programme was initiated as a part of the National Social Assistance Programme, which the Central Government financed. This scheme also adheres to some parameters as well. If the consumer is already receiving any state-funded social assistance pensions, then they may not be allowed to avail themselves of the Viklangta Pension scheme. 

The major features of the Viklangta Pension scheme include the availability of INR 300 per month to the consumer. The scheme is also known by the name Bihar State Disability Pension Scheme and offers benefits to disabled individuals domiciled in the state of Bihar who are not availing of any benefits under the Indira Gandhi Disabled Pension Scheme. 

Other than the parameters mentioned above, the eligibility criteria for availing of Viklangta Pension are as follows:–

• There has to be documentation of disability, mentioning a minimum of 40% disability on top of being disabled. 
• Age is no bar to availing of the Viklangta Pension benefits.

• It is a necessary condition that the applicant should be a Bihar domicile. This means they should have resided in Bihar for at least ten years before making a request. 

Vridhavastha Pension 

Also known as the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme, the Vridhavastha pension policy was announced in Bihar in 1995 and facilitated later under the National Social Assistance Programme in 2007. At this point, the scheme was renamed Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme. It is strictly initiated for senior citizens aged 60 years or above. Furthermore, Mukhyamantri Vridhjan Pension Scheme, which the Bihar Government introduced in 2019, was aimed at senior citizens above the age of 60 who are not receiving any retirement or old age benefits such as pensions.
