The sight of Beijing’s streets lined with the golden leaves of the ginkgo each autumn is a testament to the city’s deep connection with this ancient species.
The library’s architecture mirrors the unique characteristics of the ginkgo—its distinctive fan-shaped leaves, the towering height of more than 35 meters, offering broad shade, and the texture of its bark—all of which find echoes in the library’s design. The roof’s pattern and structure draw inspiration from the ginkgo’s leaves and trunk.
This thoughtful integration of nature’s blueprint into the library’s design bridges history with the present. It’s a clear nod to the belief that modern spaces can, and should, reflect nature’s timeless lessons and beauty.
