Tech conglomerate Google plans to expand its cloud infrastructure in India by building a new data centre in Navi Mumbai, owing to growing demands. The tech mammoth has inked an agreement with Raiden Infotech India for a 28 years lease, and it is reported that the proposed data centre is set to open and start its operations by 2025.
Let’s Talk Numbers
Google will pay a hefty amount of Rs.8.83 crores as rent for its first month of operations. A sum of Rs.1,144 crores is to be paid by Google in the next 10 years with an increase in interest of 1.75 per cent every twelve years. A stamp duty of approximately Rs.7.26 crores is subjected to the new centre. The company also had previously signed a lease for ten years at Adani Centre located in Noida, U.P, for a 464,000 square feet facility.
According to a report by the Economic Times, the new data centre in Navi Mumbai will have eight storeys including a basement and a roof. It is roughly estimated that it will take a period of 24 months to complete the entire construction.
Investing in expansion of data centres by big tech companies is a major deal. IANS has recently reported that Fungible (a provider of composable infrastructure) was acquired by Microsoft. The objective of the acquisition is to enable data centre infrastructure that is high-performance, scalable, disaggregated, and scaled-out which is reliable and secure.
As seen in their blog post, Microsoft wrote that the announcement aims to strengthen their commitment to long-term differentiated investments in data centre infrastructure. Microsoft further said the investments they make enhance their broad range of technologies and offerings, including optimising, increasing data centre server density, energy efficiency, offloading, improving latency, and reducing costs.
Another tech company, CtrlS Datacenters Ltd. is also planning to triple the operations of its data centres in India to about 25 from the current eight centres by 2024 and 2025. The company is broadening and spreading its footprint from 1.2 million square feet to five million square feet. A two million square feet Datacenter Park is constructed by the company as part of the expansion plan in Navi Mumbai. They are also constructing a similar one in Hyderabad.
India has come a long way in tech infrastructure compared to its counterpart nations and has cemented itself as one of the most lucrative nations in the world when it comes to technology. The abundance of talent in the IT sector is one of the main reasons for this massive growth and expansion. Major corporations across the world are eyeing India to scale their business and hire new recruits.
