What is the GST Portal?
The GST/GSTN portal is the official website of Government of India for GST. This portal can be used for filing tax returns, registering taxes, applying for tax rebates, and making GST payments. By using this portal, a registered taxpayer can also cancel their registration.
Registering on GST Portal
If you wish to register yourself as a GST taxpayer, then you need to follow the steps given below:
- You will need to visit the official GST portal and click on the ‘GST Practitioners’ tab. After which you are required to click on the ‘Register Now’ tab.
- On the resulting page, you need to click on ‘New Registration’. Fill in all the necessary details and the supporting documents.
- After you have finished filling all the details, you will get an OTP on your phone. Enter the OTP and verify the captcha and click on proceed.
- Once you have submitted the application, you will get an acknowledgement number. Once you have completed the process, you will get a GST number, password, and User ID. These details can be used to login to the portal.
Tracking Registration Status on GST Portal
If you wish to track the status of your GST application, then you need to follow the steps given below:
- You need to visit the official GST portal login page.
- Here you need to select the ‘Registration’ tab from the ‘Services’ drop down. You then need to click on ‘Track Application Status’.
- Enter the ARN and click on ‘Search’.
- Follow the instructions carefully and view your registration status.
New User Login to GST Portal
The following are the steps that you need to follow if you wish to register yourself to this portal as a new user:
- You need to visit the official GSTN portal and click on the ‘Login’ tab present on the top right corner of the page.
- One the bottom of the resulting page , you need to click on the ‘here’ hyperlink.
- Here you need to enter the provisional GSTIN/ID and password you received while initially registering to the portal. Complete the captcha and click on ‘Login’ to proceed.
- This will bring you to the new credentials page. Here you are required to enter your username and a password of your choice. Re-confirm the password and click on ‘Submit’ to proceed.
- A success message will then be displayed after your credentials are verified. You can use these credentials to login to the GST portal.
- After you successfully login to the GSTN portal, you will get a notification to file an application for non-core amendment to submit bank details.
- You can edit your bank details by clicking on the ‘Add New’ tab and submit the application.
GST Portal Login for Existing User
If you are an existing user trying to login to the GSTN portal, you need to follow the steps given below:
- You need to visit the official GSTN portal and click on the ‘Login’ tab on the top right of the page.
- Here you are required to enter login credentials like user ID and password and click on ‘Login’.
- After successfully logging in, you should be able to see the main dashboard. Here you can view the summary of credits, file returns, pay taxes, view notices, etc.
