Launched on August 23, 2019, and completed on November 19, 2024, this project is a part of the central government’s Smart City Mission. The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) envisions this smart city accommodating around four lakh residents. The city’s design retains natural drainage systems and features a network of integrated roads spanning 18.21 km, tailored for future transport needs. The roads range from 18 to 60 meters in width, ensuring they can handle increasing traffic. Additionally, the smart city includes a Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) corridor of 8.51 km, equipped with 15 sophisticated bus stops, promoting efficient mass transit.

Water, Waste Management, and Sustainability Efforts

Water supply and management in Atal Smart City reflect a commitment to sustainability. The RMC has laid two separate water lines—one for potable water and another for recycled water. This dual system is designed to conserve approximately 30% of potable water, providing a consistent 24-hour supply. A sewage treatment plant (STP) with a capacity of 56 million liters per day has been established, complemented by a tertiary treatment plant for further purification. The city also features a comprehensive stormwater drainage system, designed to capture and conserve rainwater effectively. This initiative not only supports the local ecology but also mitigates urban flooding risks. Furthermore, the smart city has implemented special ducts for utility management, including power cables and optical fiber, thereby minimizing future infrastructure disruptions.

In addition to these features, the city includes a 14 km cycle track and footpaths, promoting eco-friendly transportation. The design integrates tree plantation alongside natural drains, enhancing the area’s green cover and preventing encroachment.
