The inauguration of Mission 100 GW took place amid the marquee event, RE-INVEST 2024, organized by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). Being hosted in the scenic Gandhinagar district of Gujarat, this event brings together investors, innovators, and experts from all over the world to deliberate on renewable energy solutions and investment opportunities. CM Patel elaborated on Gujarat’s significant strides in renewable energy expansion and its forward-thinking policies. He emphasized the state’s focus on formulating sector-specific policies aligned with cutting-edge technology and the unique weather conditions prevalent in Gujarat. By adopting a proactive approach, Gujarat has successfully crafted policies like the Energy Policy and Green Hydrogen Policy, which serve as exemplary models. Notably, Gujarat is also promoting emerging sectors such as semiconductors and fintech, making significant contributions to the future of the energy sector. The state sets itself apart as the sole destination for establishing four semiconductor plants in the entire country.
Current Renewable Energy Landscape in Gujarat
As of April 2024, Gujarat boasted a commendable total renewable energy capacity of 27.8 GW. Among this capacity, wind power comprised the highest share, with 11.7 GW installed in Gujarat. Additionally, the state showed its prowess in solar power, with an admirable capacity of 13.8 GW. Furthermore, Gujarat harnessed 1,990 MW of large hydro capacity, alongside relatively smaller contributions from biomass power (112.5 MW) and small-hydropower (91.64 MW). These achievements signify Gujarat’s potential as a frontrunner in renewable energy adoption.
PM Modi Driving the Energy Transition
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the flagship event RE-INVEST 2024 with a powerful assertion of India’s commitment to renewable energy expansion. Under the central theme of Mission 500 GW, PM Modi laid the foundation for India’s strategic aspiration of boosting renewable energy capacity to a staggering 500 GW by 2030. As the fourth-largest nation globally regarding installed renewable energy capacity, India aspires to reinforce its position at the forefront of the global energy transition.
