The origins of Halloween can be traced back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, which was celebrated on November 1 in accordance with modern calendars. Samhain was a Gaelic festival commemorating the harvest season ending and the beginning of winter, also known as the “darker half” of the year. People usually dress up in costumes and light bonfires to ward off spirits on that day, as it was believed that the souls of the dead returned to their homes. Witches, ghosts, goblins, and ghouls have become associated with the holiday over the course of centuries.
When is Halloween Celebrated in India?

The Celts believed that the link between the dead and the living blurred the night before the new year. How Do We Celebrate Halloween in India?
Unlike in the west, people in India do not use ghosts and fear as metaphors for the dead. Rather, Indians commemorate the deceased by fasting and holding praying ceremonies. Narak Chaturdashi, observed on the 14th day of Krishna Paksh in Kartik Month, is one festival where we remember the dead.
