Illegal Construction Prompts Restoration Orders

Show-Cause Notices Issued for Illegal Construction in DLF 5 Affordable Homes

The District Town Planner enforcement in Gurugram has taken strict action against homeowners in DLF 5 for illegal construction and commercial activities in affordable homes provided for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category. Show-cause notices have been issued to 100 homeowners, who have failed to provide satisfactory responses within the given timeframe.

Lack of Compliance Leading to Restoration Orders

According to officials from the District Town Planner enforcement, despite the show-cause notices, no satisfactory responses have been received from the homeowners. As a result, the department has decided to move forward with restoration orders. Homeowners will be given a 7 to 10-day compliance period to restore the houses to their original form. Failure to comply within the given timeframe may result in a sealing drive.

Violations Uncovered in Affordable Housing

A survey conducted by the District Town Planner enforcement in DLF-5 has revealed significant violations in affordable housing. Investigations carried out under the Haryana Urban Development Act have exposed the conversion of 60 square yard homes into sources of substantial income through illegal construction and commercial activities.

Flouting Building Codes and Regulations

The survey findings point to homeowners constructing buildings with stilt parking and multiple floors exceeding the permitted limit. Regulations state that only three floors are allowed, along with stilt parking. However, property owners have been found to have constructed up to five or six floors, in violation of the rules.

Furthermore, stilt parking areas have been repurposed with the addition of rooms, a direct violation of building codes. Property owners have created multiple one-room sets on each floor, exceeding the allowed limit and resulting in overburdened structures. This has led to an increase in rental income, estimated at around Rs 25 to 30 million per month.

Disregard for Basic Amenities and Delicate Infrastructure

The unchecked construction and illegal activities in the affordable homes have caused a strain on the colony’s basic amenities, including water, electricity, and sewage systems. Originally intended to accommodate three families, these houses are now being overcrowded, compromising the amenities and services for the entire community.

Immediate Actions and Sealing Drive

Taking note of these serious violations, the District Town Planner enforcement is fully committed to restoring order and compliance. Restoration orders will be issued to the homeowners, requiring them to revert the houses to their original form. If the restoration is not done within the specified timeframe of 7 to 10 days, a sealing drive will be conducted to enforce compliance.

Future Implications

This crackdown on illegal construction and commercial activities in the DLF 5 affordable housing scheme reflects the growing concern over violations that compromise the welfare and infrastructure of communities. Authorities will continue to monitor the situation closely and take necessary action against those who disregard regulations and disregard the sanctity of affordable housing initiatives.
