The Commonwealth Games 2022 edition completed its session in Birmingham, where India has created another historical chapter in its winning story of sports affairs. With athletes like Sakshi Malik, the bronze medal winner in CWG 2016, India has now bagged the gold. In addition, Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist Bajrang Punia also grabbed gold in wrestling. Cumulatively, India now rules over 61 medals incredibly.
In weightlifting, India in CWG garnered a gold medal by the 6th day with an outstanding performance. Interestingly, an unprecedented winning of 10 medals in these sports has helped them to play in the semi-finals of the hosts, England as well. In cricket, India in CWG 2022 targeted a silver medal which worked fine to get them a glorifying winning record this year as reaching the finale for the Indian women’s cricket team. Similarly, a great achievement by India’s men’s hockey team was also witnessed with assured medals.
After that, the Indian Badminton athletes bagged 3 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals. Lakshay Sen and PV Sindhu showed splendid performance in their single tournaments also. Besides this, even the Men’s Double didn’t disappoint the Indians with athletes like Chirag Chetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and won medals of pride again.
Wrapping the victory, India took 61 medals home in Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. With 4th position in the medal tally, the nation ends the count with 22 gold, 16 silver and 23 bronze medals, respectively. Though, India in CWG was at its best in 2010 when it was held in its capital, Delhi.
