Indian Railways has announced the addition of fifty more Amrit Bharat trains this year, as part of a larger plan to launch a total of 1000 trains in the coming years. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has revealed that the new trains are being built to operate at a speed of 250 km/h, providing faster and more efficient transportation options for passengers across the country.
Overview of Amrit Bharat Train: The Amrit Bharat train project was initially unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 30, 2023. It currently connects Bengaluru to Malda Town and Anand Vihar to Darbhanga, enabling convenient travel options for passengers in these regions. The average speed of the train is 130 km/h, ensuring timely arrivals and departures.
Affordable Ticket Prices: One of the key highlights of the Amrit Bharat Express is its affordable ticket prices. The fares vary based on the distance traveled, with a second-class ticket for a journey of up to 50 km costing around Rs 35. For journeys ranging from 15 km to over 50 km, the minimum cost for a sleeper class ticket is Rs 46. These cost-effective fares encourage more people to choose the Amrit Bharat trains for their travel needs.
Connecting Distant Locations: The Amrit Bharat train service aims to bridge the gap between locations that are over 800 km apart or would take considerable time to reach using other means of transportation. By offering an unreserved, low-cost sleeper service without air conditioning, the train provides an accessible and efficient option for long-distance travel. With a maximum speed of 110-130 km/h, the Amrit Bharat train boasts two engines on each side and 22 cars to accommodate a large number of passengers.
Growth in First-Class Service: The Amrit Bharat Express initially launched with a focus on providing cost-effective travel options. However, in response to evolving passenger demand and preferences, the train now also offers first-class services. This expansion of service, which started on January 1, 2024, gives passengers the added convenience and comfort of a premium travel experience during their journeys.
Manufacturing of Amrit Bharat Trains: The Integral Coach Factory in Chennai is the manufacturing hub for the Amrit Bharat train sets. Each train is estimated to cost Rs 0.65 billion to produce. The modern amenities, comfortable cabins, and facilities incorporated into these train sets make them a preferred choice for many travelers seeking a seamless and delightful journey of long duration.
Future Prospects for Amrit Bharat: With the addition of fifty more trains this year, Indian Railways is steadily expanding its fleet of Amrit Bharat trains. These trains will not only facilitate faster travel but also contribute to a well-connected transportation network within the country. Passengers can look forward to increased accessibility, convenience, and comfort for both short and long-distance travel, ensuring that the Amrit Bharat trains continue to make a positive impact on the Indian railway system.
