After binge-watching Netflix’s miniseries – The Queen’s Gambit we can’t keep calm about its refreshing storyline and 60s grand millennial interiors.
Talking about the show – It’s the story of an American orphan Beth Harmon, (essayed by Anya Taylor-Joy) who works her way up to becoming a globally recognised chess champion. The Queen’s Gambit shows us how the prodigy Beth Harmon’s status rises as she wins Chess Championships and her taste for beautiful things grows with time. From donning the most trending outfits to redecorating her home with striking patterns and wallpapers, Beth gives us style cues to follow.
Though Beth’s life is an inspiration for many, we laid our eyes on the home décor to bring you (blame it on the exclusivity) some interesting interior designing highlights.
Here’s a wallpaper trend, you can follow from the Series – The Queen’s Gambit
Let’s go ahead and visit the charming aesthetics of the place.
We see the house in the initial episodes when Beth is adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Wheatley. This residential property in Kentucky (as shown in the series) serves as home to Beth and her adoptive parents.
The residential property shown in the series is actually located in Cambridge, Ontario.
The exteriors are painted in light blue complemented by a Chevrolet Bel Air in the driveway.
Grandmillenial Bedroom Interiors in The Queen’s Gambit
We still remember the amazed expression on Beth’s face when Mrs. Wheatley shows her inside the bedroom. Beth’s bedroom sets some serious interior decoration goals. This is the most quintessential space in the house with pink plaid wallpaper, flora canopy bed. As they say, great design is timeless, needless to say, we would love to replicate this early 60s decor in our bedroom. Everything in the room is in the pink colour scheme with mixes and matches of prints and patterns. There is a bed with a pastel pink comforter, a matching canopy, a light fixture filled with pink flowers and green leaves. Don’t forget to check out the Louis XVI style inspired chair perched in the corner. This is definitely a dream bedroom for all of us, isn’t it!
Living Room in The Queen’s Gambit
Let’s get inside the living room, where we see Mr Wheatley spending time reading a newspaper and Mrs Wheatley playing melodious tunes on the piano. The teal coloured wallpaper complements Beth’s cardigan in the scene when she visits her new home. There in the living room, we see a teal coloured sofa and a matching armchair. The red brick fireplace and the golden mirror break the monotony of teal colour.
Master Bedroom of Mr. and Mrs. Wheatley
Seeking balance in life? This stunning combination of pink and blue offers the perfect balance in colour scheme. Wheatley’s bedroom is dipped in hues of pink, blue, and white. The periwinkle patterns on curtains, walls, comforter, lampshades are an instant mood elevator. There’s nothing wrong with doubling up a design element if it’s such pleasing to look at.
Having said that, we can’t miss out on the design element in the entry hallway which has pastel yellow, green plaid wallpaper, and an olive green staircase.
So, it doesn’t matter if you are a fan of the series or not, there are a lot of interior design cues to follow and redo your home interiors.
