Form 49A is the most critical form for applying for a PAN card for an Indian citizen. Any individual applicant wishing to apply for a new PAN card must fill in all the details and attach the supporting documents. However, due to the lengthy nature of the form, filling it can get confusing. Instruction for Filling Form 49A
Form 49A for PAN card application has to be used by any Indian citizen or entity wishing to apply for a new PAN card. The form has to be filled in English only and block letters. It is marked with ‘*’ that needs to be compulsorily filled. Given below are some of the other details that have to be mentioned in the form:
- Full Name: The applicant must write their full name and cannot use their initials in this section for their first, middle, or last name.
- Full Name Abbreviation to be Printed on the PAN Card: The applicant must also provide an abbreviated full name printed on the physical card. The abbreviated name should have the last name of the applicant. The first and middle names can be abbreviated, but the last name should be full.
- Other Names: If the applicant has been known by any other name, they should select ‘Yes’ in this section. The applicant must then submit all the details about the other name. The other name has to be entered in the form; abbreviations cannot be used for this name in the form.
- Gender: Here, the applicant needs to select the Gender.
- Date of Birth: Here, the applicant must mention their date of birth in DD/MM/YYYY format.
- Information about Parents: The applicant has to provide information about their parents in this section. The father’s name must be mentioned mandatorily, while the mother’s name is optional. Abbreviated names cannot be used; all the names must be mentioned in full. Even female applicants must provide their father’s name instead of their husband’s name in PAN card Form 49A. Once the name has been entered on the form, the applicant must select what name they want ensureprinted on the card.
- Office and Residential Address: The residential address must be mandatorily mentioned in PAN Card Application Form 49A. The applicant’s current employer’s details must also be mentioned on the form. Ensure that the complete address is mentioned in the form without any mistakes. The district, state, and PIN codes all have to be mentioned.
- Correspondence Address: In this field, the applicant has to mention their address which the authorities will use for communicating with the applicant. The applicant is required to enter either an office or residential address. Enter the address where you are most likely to receive communication.
- Phone Number and Email ID: Applicants are required to provide their email ID in PAN Card Application Form 49A and phone number so that the authorities can contact them if needed. The telephone number should be mentioned along with STD/ISD code. The authorities will use these details to send you updates regarding application status, so enter all the fields correctly to avoid any inconvenience later.
- Applicant’s Status: The applicant is required to mention the application status.
- Registration Number: This field is to be filled by companies only. Applicant’s who are individuals or Hindu Undivided Families are not required to fill this section.
- Aadhaar Number: If the applicant submits the Aadhaar card as an address/identity proof, they must enter the Aadhaar number. This section has to be supported with a copy of the Aadhaar card.
- Source of Income: The applicant must mention at least one source of income. For example, if the source of income is business or profession, the applicant should enter the appropriate profession/business in this section. - Name and Address of Representative Assessee: In some instances, a representative assessee can represent the assessee as stated in Section 160 of the Income Tax Act. This field is to be filled by the representative only. The representative assessee is also required to furnish identity and address proof documents.
- Documents: For the application to be processed, the applicant must provide a certain set of identity and address proof documents. The applicant must make sure that all the attached documents are registered in their name.
