Irrfan’s Artistically Crafted Abode: An Overview
Irrfan Khan’s larger-than-life movies were a mirror to his professional life, but his personal life only came to light with glints of his house. Even after his demise, his sons keep his fans in the loop by reminiscing his memories through old photographs.
Irrfan Khan and his family (Sutapa, Babila and Ayaan) used to live in Madh Island till a few years ago. They shifted to the Oshiwara address in 2016, wherein their apartment oozes sophistication and elegance.
Irrfan Khan’s house interiors have been designed by Shabnam Gupta, famously known for her brands – The Orange Lane and Peacock Life. She has also designed the properties of celebs like Parineeti Chopra and Kangana Ranaut.
A Glimpse of Irrfan Khan’s Home Interiors
Shabnam Gupta has designed each space in the house in a unique way representing the personalities of its inhabitants. However, the brilliance lies in the fact that despite each part being distinct, it is still knit together in a cohesive manner.

The Enchanting Entrance
Every nook of Irrfan Khan’s home interiors defines who he was as a person – a legend in his true self. A striking blue colour catches the eye when one reaches the entrance lobby. It is unique and charming, just like the star himself. The entrance gives way to an open and spacious living room owing to the floor-to-ceiling glass windows.
A Living Room Straight out of the Canvas
Irrfan Khan’s home is deeply rooted in his Indian heritage and is a blend of sculptures, intricate art, and exquisite frames. The interiors boast of both soft touch and sturdy material in the form of floral motifs and traditional wooden furniture.
The colour palette of the room is a coruscating mixture of neutrals and brights. The concrete ceiling, the subtle yet colourful splash of pinks and blues, and the balancing ivory white make the room look heavenly. The hints of greenery both outside and inside the room cleverly combine the rustic and urban vibe.
The area of the living room that we love the most displays the star’s inquisitive nature. The walls have some of the most unique pieces of art, travel souvenirs and artefacts that Irrfan collected over his lifetime.
In fact, the living room’s focal point is a pond! Yes, the space is centred around a Turkish bathtub made of blue marble resembling an aquatic ecosystem. This intriguing addition stimulated the actor’s way of life.
The charpai (low, wooden framed bench with ropes), the Gond painting ( indigenous tribal art of India), the Rajasthani jharokha (windows found in ancient forts), and colourful jute rugs are the perfect examples of the eclectic design of the living room. We cannot take our eyes away from the pink Jhoola, which was a must in Khan’s wishlist. One of the pillars has been transformed into a statement decor component through a collage of antique mirrors and burnt terracotta panels. The living room is also surrounded by two balconies which act as a Parda from the outside world. This justifies Irrfan’s desire to disconnect from the daily humdrum of city life to spend quality time with his family.
The Intricacies of the Dining Room
Do not be surprised to see the rich Persian blue dominating the dining area that signifies Irrfan’s Pathani culture and the history of Jaipur. Despite the strikingly gorgeous blue, the room’s overall vibe is calming because of the white walls and reflecting mirror panels.
The man’s eye for detail is quite evident in his obsession with symmetry and the design of the five black statement lights which glisten over the dining table. The dining room and living room are effortlessly connected with an inset of windows.
The Majestic Bedroom
Irrfan Khan’s bedroom is a true reflection of his style and what defines him as a person. The room’s interiors are elevated with whites, blues, and woods. It exudes tranquillity and elegance as the Gond painting holds the attention. A petite vintage chair in the corner accentuates the whole look.
Overall, the room is true to the Indian authenticity and has a minimal design for a peaceful effect. A bay window opens up to Irrfan’s private study, the space that rendered him some solitude with a library wall, reading nook, and comfortable seating.
Sutapa’s Authentic Room
Sutapa’s room has been designed keeping in mind her taste and style. Gond art, antique pieces, floral motifs, and a small balcony of her own offers an individualistic vibe to the room. The beauty of it is enhanced with a vibrant yellow table and two chairs.
Many items out of the ones used in both Irrfan and Sutapa’s rooms have been sourced from Rajasthan and their personal collections.
As per the designer, conceptualising the children’s bedroom adjacent to the kitchen and next to their parent’s bedroom was a daunting task. However, the hard work paid off with satisfactory outcomes, as visible from Babil’s room.
Irrfan Khan’s House in Madh Island
Before moving to this beautiful home in Oshiwara, Irrfan Khan lived a simpler lifestyle in Madh Island. There is no denying that Khan was a man with fine taste and despite making it big in life, his lifestyle continued to portray his real down-to-earth personality.
Irrfan’s son Babil took to Instagram to post a picture of his old house, which reminded him deeply of his lost father and childhood. The post reads,
“This is my father’s old room near the beach before we shifted to the city. This is where he did most of his work. Studying acting now, I think of one of the ideas that he used to implement: that the craft has immense emotional similarities to playing around as a child.”
