Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation to Appoint New Agency for Line 2
The Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) has made the decision to appoint a new agency for the preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Jaipur Metro’s Line 2. This move signifies a shift away from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), which had previously prepared the DPR for Line 2.
Changes in Alignments and the Need for a Revised DPR
According to a senior JMRC official, the tender process for DPR preparation has been completed, with bids now being evaluated. The chosen agency will be responsible for updating the DPR, taking into account the changes in alignments along Tonk Road and situational factors.
In recent times, infrastructure development and traffic projects have necessitated alterations to the proposed alignments along Tonk Road. Notably, the construction of the underpass at Laxmi Mandir Tiraha coincided with the planned location for metro pillars, leading to the need for the pillars to be shifted and the route to be realigned.
The Inclusion of Changes in the Updated DPR
The updated DPR will not only incorporate changes to the alignments along Tonk Road but will also feature modifications to the alignments between Ambabari and Vidhyadhar Nagar. The revisions will account for the unique challenges presented by ongoing situtions in the region.
“To ensure transparency, we decided to hire a new agency,” the JMRC official stated. This decision aligns with efforts to maintain openness and efficiency in the development process.
Land Acquisition and Legal Concerns
Another challenge that the JMRC is currently facing is land acquisition in Sitapura for the offices and facilities related to Line 2. Unlike the government-owned land used for the JMRC headquarters at Mansarovar, the land in Sitapura is privately owned. Consequently, this raises complexities that need to be addressed, especially since the matter is currently before the courts.
The Finalization of Alignments and Proposed Stations
On a more positive note, the alignments and proposed stations for the newly announced stretch between Ambabari and Vidhyadhar Nagar have been finalized. This development signifies the progress being made in this particular phase of the project.
As the JMRC moves forward with its plans for Line 2, the appointment of a new agency for the preparation of the DPR indicates a commitment to adaptability and efficiency. This shift, driven by recent developments and pragmatic considerations, will help streamline the project and create a robust foundation for the development of Jaipur’s metro network.
