Nestled in Maharashtra, Kalyan is eligible to be a smart city due to its robust infrastructure, well-developed industrial base, and high level of urbanisation. It has a large population and is well-connected to other cities through road and rail networks. The city has an excellent educational infrastructure and is home to many educational institutions. 

Including this, it also has a comparatively good civic infrastructure, with efficient water, power, and sanitation systems. Additionally, Kalyan is making significant progress in digital connectivity, waste management, and public transport. All these factors make Kalyan eligible for smart city status.

About Smart City Kalyan Mission

Kalyan is one of Maharashtra’s most brewing cities, which has been shortlisted in the Smart City Mission. Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation- KDMC, is dedicated to implementing the plans and strategies of the Smart City Kalyan Proposal. Being a pan India project, the Municipality Corporation has made a Kalyan Smart City portal from which the commoners are requested to add suggestions on aspects of the project.

Smart City Kalyan has been chosen for numerous reasons that upgrade the city under multiple umbrellas of urban facilities- sewage & drainage system, solid waste management, aesthetics, water supply, health, transport and IT interventions via e-governance. 

Besides this, a safe and healthy environment to live, educate and settle in are some of its key priorities to uplift the living standards of the people. In addition to this, the growth of pedestrian pathways, scientific development and solar energy upgradation is also included. Areas such as Dombivli West, Kalyan West, Ambivli and Tiywala are highlighting spots under the project.

Kalyan Smart City Objectives

Smart City Kalyan has set out a series of objectives to improve the quality of life for its citizens. These objectives focus on building a smart, connected, and resilient city that is capable of responding to the present and future needs of its citizens. 

• Infrastructure and Services: To enhance the infrastructure and services available in the city, Smart City Kalyan seeks to upgrade the existing infrastructure, develop new infrastructure, and ensure equitable access to these services. This includes improving the roads, water and sewer systems, public transportation, and public spaces. The goal is to make the city more efficient and connected while providing citizens access to quality services. 
• Digital Connectivity: To ensure that every citizen has access to digital services, Smart City Kalyan is working on expanding digital connectivity throughout the city. This includes providing high-speed internet, digital education, and other digital services. 
• Smart Governance: Smart City Kalyan seeks to make the city more efficient and transparent through digital technologies. This includes the implementation of e-Governance, digital services, and automated processes. The goal is to make it easier for citizens to interact with the government and access services.
• Encouraging sustainable transportation: To reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality, Smart City Kalyan should promote public transportation, walking, and cycling. This can be done by implementing dedicated bike lanes, improved public transit routes, and incentives for electric vehicle usage.
• Improving energy efficiency: Smart City Kalyan should reduce energy consumption and improve energy efficiency in buildings and homes. This can be achieved by implementing smart meters, energy-efficient appliances, and solar power.

Kalyan Smart City is currently in the planning stages. A proposed map of the project is available online. It shows the proposed development of the city, which includes major infrastructure projects, residential and commercial zones, and several other amenities. The map also outlines the proposed road network, eventually linking the city to Mumbai.

Kalyan Smart City: Citizen Services

Kalyan Smart City Citizen Services are designed to make life easier and more comfortable for the citizens. The services are designed to provide enhanced quality of life, improved safety, and greater economic opportunity. 

• One of the key services provided by the Kalyan Smart City is the Smart City App. This mobile app helps citizens access a variety of services, such as paying bills, booking appointments, and getting information about local events. The app also provides real-time updates on traffic and weather conditions, as well as emergency alerts. 
• The Kalyan Smart City also provides citizens access to a range of digital services. These services include cashless payments, digital IDs, and contactless delivery. 
• The city also has an online portal where citizens can access key government services such as e-governance, e-commerce, and online banking.
