Kanika Gupta Shori has been one inspiring women entrepreneur. One of the brains behind the creation of global real estate aggregator firm, Square Yards, she has played a massive role in taking the company to greater heights and that too in a very short span of time- four years to be precise. The end of 2017 saw Square yards register a growth of nearly 100 percent across all defined parameters. Square Yards, under the astute supervision of Kanika Gupta Shori, also managed to achieve incredible feat of garnering $28 million in gross revenues for the period between Jan-Dec 2017, an increase of 84% y-o-y over the same period (Jan to Dec) in 2016.
There is a story behind the creation of Square Yards too. The idea behind the company’s establishment stemmed from Kanika’s own poor personal experiences of dealing in Indian Real estate. She discovered, much to her astonishment, how highly unorganized, fragmented and complicated the sector was for NRI’s living abroad to purchase property in India. She realized there is a massive need for end to end real estate transaction advisory and research support services for buyers overseas. It was then that Square yards came into being. The company has since expanded its presence to 40 cities in 10 countries.
On the technology side, Square yards saw a significant increase in velocity courtesy launch of dedicated property portals for the UAE, Canadian and Australian markets. Under Kanika’s leadership, the company managed to come very close to the broader objective of completing $1 billion in Gross Transactional Value (Total Value of properties sold + Total value of loans disbursed) by registering $950 million in GTV by December, a rise of 81% from 2016. Square Capital, the firm’s digital lending division, emerged as the largest integrated distributor of secured mortgages in India with $40 million worth of loan disbursals every month by the end of 2017.
All these accomplishments have been acknowledged in the form of various real estate awards that the company and Kanika have received including ‘Brand of the Year”, India’ Scroll of Honor Award at CREDAI. BERG Singapore, COWE among others. Last year indeed was an excellent year for Square Yards, and with Kanika’s constant guidance, the company is only expected to scale new heights.
