“Karnataka Government inspects innovative Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project”

Karnataka Government Inspects Ongoing Construction of Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project
Inspection by Chief Secretary and Managing Director of K-RIDE

Karnataka government officials, including Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh and Managing Director of K-RIDE Manjula N, recently inspected the ongoing construction works of the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project. The inspection focused on the Kanakanagar area of Corridor 2, which is a significant part of the project.

A Strategic Infrastructure Advancement
Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh lauded the construction works as a strategic infrastructure advancement for high-traffic urban areas. She emphasized the importance of such projects in tackling space constraints and providing efficient transportation options. The Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project is seen as a poster example of efficient planning, innovation, and commitment to serving the society.

An Innovative Solution
The section along Corridor 2, from Kanakanagar to Hebbal, involves an innovative solution to eliminate level crossings in densely populated areas. Traditional options like Road Over Bridges (RoBs) are not feasible due to high urban density. Instead, the entire rail section will be elevated, thus ensuring the elimination of level crossings without negatively impacting the surrounding community.

A First-of-its-Kind Strategy
The strategy adopted by the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project is a first-of-its-kind in the country. By elevating the rail tracks, the project promises to revolutionize the effectiveness of rail transport. This innovative approach showcases the commitment to finding practical solutions that suit the unique challenges faced in urban areas.

Execution Plan
Officials involved in the project outlined their execution plan during the inspection. Initially, the construction will focus on the Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project (BSRP) side. Once this section is completed, Indian Railways (IR) trains will be temporarily diverted to the new tracks. This will allow the elevation and restructuring of existing IR tracks to be carried out without any interruption. The goal is to create dedicated tracks for both BSRP and IR, allowing them to operate independently.

The Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project has reaffirmed the determination to deliver a world-class transportation system that enhances the quality of life for Bengaluru’s residents and commuters. The inspection highlighted the progress made so far and paved the way for further advancements in creating a modern and efficient rail network in the city.
