Karnataka Launching Groundbreaking KHIR-City Project

Karnataka to Launch Ambitious KHIR-City Project on September 26

The Karnataka government is set to launch the Knowledge Health Innovation Research-City (KHIR-City) project on September 26. Taking a cue from global innovation hubs like Singapore’s Biopolis and Research Triangle Park in the US, the KHIR-City aims to foster innovation and research in the state. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the project, which is the first of its kind in India.

The KHIR-City will span approximately 2,000 acres and have an estimated investment of over Rs 40,000 crore. This ambitious project is expected to create approximately 1 lakh direct and indirect jobs, catapulting Karnataka’s economy to new heights. The initial phase of development will encompass an area of 500 acres, laying the foundation for future expansion.

International Inspiration and Local Expertise Blend in KHIR-City

Drawing inspiration from global models such as Singapore’s Biopolis and the Research Triangle Park in the US, the KHIR-City will also incorporate elements from various successful local projects like Bengaluru’s Hitech City and Electronics City. The purpose is to blend global innovation with local expertise, placing Karnataka at the cutting edge of research and technology.

Situated between Doddaballapur and Dobaspet, around 50 km from Kempegowda International Airport, the KHIR-City will have excellent connectivity. The strategic location ensures easy access to the city’s resources, facilitating collaboration and innovation. A well-designed transport and infrastructure network will support the needs of the city’s residents, further enhancing its attractiveness.

Advisory Committee to Oversee Progress and Excellence

Recognizing the importance of timely progress, the Karnataka government has formed an advisory committee comprising eminent personalities with diverse expertise. The panel includes prominent figures such as Dr. Devi Shetty, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Prashanth Prakash, Thomas Osha, Ron Kimball, Mohandas Pai, and Nikhil Kamath. Their collective knowledge and network will ensure that the project proceeds smoothly and meets high standards.

The advisory committee will guide the development process, guaranteeing that the city incorporates world-class universities, hospitals, innovative industries, and research institutions. By synergizing these elements, the KHIR-City aspires to become a monumental force in driving economic growth, boosting exports, and positioning Bengaluru for global recognition.

A Visionary City on the Horizon

The KHIR-City’s main objective is to create a vibrant ecosystem that brings together academia, healthcare, innovation-driven industries, and research institutions. With a planned residential density of 100 people per acre, the city will prioritize convenience and accessibility for its residents. This integrated approach will facilitate collaboration, knowledge sharing, and groundbreaking discoveries.

The visionary KHIR-City is a testament to Karnataka’s determination to establish itself as a leading hub for innovation and research. By leveraging international models and the rich expertise within the state, this project holds the key to unlock unprecedented economic growth and further strengthen Bengaluru’s reputation on the global stage.
