Here are some major aims that are taken care of in Smart City Kochi projects to promote global sustainability in every possible aspects.
- Creating a comprehensive water transportation system that connects the city’s Fort Kochi and Central City neighbourhoods. This system will include a contemporary ferry service, improved road access to jetties, and repair of current jetties.
- Restoring the city’s existing parks and waterways and building new plazas, canal paths, and green spaces.
- Reclaiming Fort Kochi-reputation Mattancherry as a centre for culture and heritage, as well as the city’s commercial hub. This includes rehabilitation and brand building (such as the Kochi Biennale).
- Establishing a network of green, smart transportation that offers autos, pedestrians, and cyclists safe, seamless travel. This involves enhancing last-mile connectivity and multimodal transportation links through bike-sharing programmes. Additionally, developing pedestrian-friendly and pedestrianised roadways is a priority.
- Redevelopment of slum regions while ensuring access to first-rate necessities like infrastructure for education and healthcare.
- Enhancing infrastructure with smart solutions, including energy-efficient solar-powered streetlights, Wi-Fi hotspots, public kiosks, smart traffic signal control, and smart metres for water and electricity.
