Maharashtra State Launches Road Improvement Project Phase-III
The Maharashtra State Road Improvement Project Phase-III, supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), has officially commenced with a virtual ceremony led by Public Works Minister Ravindra Chavan. This ambitious initiative aims to develop 1,480 kilometers of cement concrete roads across 24 districts, with an investment of Rs 127.68 billion.
Enhanced Road Network to Benefit Key Districts
Under this project, significant districts such as Vidarbha, Jalgaon, Dhule, and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar will witness the development of improved road networks. The primary objective is to alleviate travel congestion and enhance transportation for both industrial and agricultural sectors. These better connectivity links are expected to be a catalyst in stimulating economic growth and boosting trade activities.
Sustainability at its Core
The Maharashtra State Road Improvement Project Phase-III not only aims to enhance transportation but also prioritizes ecological sustainability. As part of the plan, approximately 3 lakh trees will be planted, contributing to environmental conservation and promoting green cover. Moreover, the project will focus on groundwater replenishment through the implementation of water recharge systems. These endeavors intend to ensure a sustainable and eco-friendly approach to road development.
ADB’s Contribution and Joint Funding
In a partnership between the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Indian government, ADB is providing a significant contribution of Rs 41.5 billion towards the Maharashtra State Road Improvement Project Phase-III. The remaining funds will be sourced through the central government and state budget. This collaboration reflects the commitment and effort of all stakeholders involved in driving the development and progress of the state’s infrastructure.
The launch of the Maharashtra State Road Improvement Project Phase-III has set a positive precedent for ongoing infrastructure endeavors in the region. As progress continues, the improved cement concrete roads will positively impact the socio-economic landscape, stimulating growth across various sectors in Maharashtra.
