Role of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway
Under the central road infrastructure fund (CRIF), the ministry is vested with approving a list of work on state roads based on their priority as determined by the respective state government. The credibility of these projects is established by the fact that out of the 111 works put forth by the Manipur government, the ministry has approved 57 important projects, based on the BOS ratio. The current BOS ratio stands at 9.81, surpassing the permissible BoS ratio of 4 for a hilly state.
Investing in the Northeast
In efforts to escalate the development of Manipur, allocating adequate resources becomes a crucial consideration. Consequently, the ministry has planned two national highway projects, overseeing a cost of Rs 13.50 billion for a total length of 90 kilometers. Notably, both these projects extend to the hilly districts within the region, emphasizing the integration of all parts of the state into an era of advancement.
Meeting to Ensure Timely Advancement
To supervise and discuss the implementation and progress of 38 ongoing national highway projects, encompassing a distance of 808 kilometers in Manipur, a meeting was held in Delhi. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari organized the meeting in the presence of Union MoS Ajay Tamta Ji, H D Malhotra, Manipur CM N Biren Singh, and other senior officials. The core focus of the meeting was to expedite the development process in Manipur, facilitating the prompt completion of these vital infrastructure projects. This strategic step aims to enhance connectivity and foster economic growth, therefore, reassessing the government’s unwavering commitment to the advancement of the entire North-east region.
Manipur Looks Ahead
With the approval of 50 national highway projects in Manipur, spanning over a significant distance, the residents of the state can look forward to improved connectivity and an impetus to economic growth and development. It is expected that the completion of these projects, as well as the ongoing projects under review, will transform Manipur, redefining its infrastructural landscape and making it a hub of progress in the near future.
