MHADA to Launch Massive Housing Lottery for 20,000 Affordable Homes in Mumbai and Surrounding Cities
The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has announced plans to conduct a massive housing lottery for 20,000 affordable homes in Mumbai, its surrounding cities, and Pune. This initiative aims to provide thousands of people with the opportunity to own their dream homes in areas such as Thane, Vasai, Virar, and Raigad.
Affordable Homes Offered in Key Mumbai Locations
During a computerized lottery held at the Yashwantrao Chavan Centre in Mumbai, MHADA offered 2,030 affordable flats in prime locations including Goregaon, Vikhroli, Powai, Borivali, Kandivali, Malad, Antop Hill, Juhu, and South Mumbai. The lottery was attended by Atul Save, Maharashtra Housing Minister, and Valsa Nair Singh, Additional Chief Secretary of Housing.
Expanding Housing Opportunities in Konkan, MMR, and Pune
According to Sanjeev Jaiswal, CEO & VP of MHADA, the organization is set to announce lotteries for an additional 16,000 affordable homes in Konkan, the Mumbai Metropolitan Area (MMR), and Pune. These homes, priced between Rs 20 lakh and Rs 1 crore, aim to provide housing opportunities to economically weaker sections (EWS) and low-income groups (LIG). This expansion aims to ensure that affordable housing is within reach for marginalized communities.
Continued Efforts to Provide Affordable Housing
MHADA is dedicated to providing more affordable housing options in Mumbai. Apart from the 20,000 homes planned for the upcoming housing lottery, MHADA will conduct two more lotteries in March and June 2025, offering 2,000 to 3,000 homes.
Furthermore, the organization is working on a contract to construct an additional 2,000 affordable homes on Patra Chawl land in Mumbai. This further expansion of housing opportunities underscores MHADA’s commitment to meeting the growing demand for affordable housing in the city.
Possession of 30,000 Affordable Homes Already Granted
MHADA has already handed over possession of 30,000 affordable homes through a total of nine lotteries conducted across Maharashtra. These lotteries have taken place in cities like Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Nashik, Sambhaji Nagar, and Nagpur. The initiative has brought smiles to the faces of many deserving individuals, providing them with a long-awaited opportunity to have their own homes in the bustling city of Mumbai.
A Dream Come True for Lottery Winner
Jayshree Kotkar, a fortunate winner of the MHADA lottery in Mumbai, expressed her delight at finally being able to secure a home in the city. Jayshree had been applying for the lottery for the past ten years and never imagined she would be chosen this time. Having experienced years of renting, Jayshree now sees this opportunity as a blessing and her dream come true.
MHADA’s commitment to providing affordable housing options is truly changing lives and offering hope to thousands of people in need. This ongoing effort is a positive step towards ensuring housing opportunities for all sections of society, promoting inclusivity and allowing marginalized individuals and families to own their own homes.
