Municipal Corporation Property Tax

Municipal Corporation Property Tax

Here we will guide you through the importance of paying bills and taxes to the government which in return is beneficial for us.

Property Tax – Why is it important?

A general overview of the taxes paid against owning a property will give you a clear glimpse into the importance of paying property taxes to the government. Let us assume that you own a property in your name which means you are the sole proprietor of that property. You are solely responsible for maintaining and using that property. Now it is up to you whether you want to rent it or sell it or maybe use it for a commercial purpose. However, one thing which you should be aware of is that you are liable to pay a certain amount as taxes either annually or semi-annually to the municipal authority of your region.

By paying the taxes you are following a legal practice. The tax bills and payment receipts act as pieces of evidence that the land or property belongs to you and you are taking proper care to maintain and generate revenue from the property. Moreover, the tax you are liable to pay to the government authorities is supposed to be used in the welfare of public means only. Construction programmes, water supply, drainage system, etc. are all maintained and modified time and again by using the fund raised from the taxes paid to the government by property owners.

Since it is almost impossible for a single government authority to take care of the entire system of property tax collection at the national level, the state government functions as the property tax collection agency at the state levels.  This is also because Municipal Affairs is a state matter.

This implies that the state is divided into various municipalities where the government has allotted different Municipal Corporations to cater to the needs of the people and keep track of the happenings around. One such example of a municipality is the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) in Maharashtra. The KDMC has eased the process of payment of taxes for the people by establishing a website where the property owners can use the Municipal Corporation Tax Online Payment options.
