The wait is finally over for Dwarka Expressway. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has already issued a notification, which provides the national highway status to the 28 Km stretch of the Dwarka Expressway. The Dwarka Expressway commences from the Shiv Murti in Delhi and concludes at Gurugram’s Kherki Daula. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had previously made an announcement of offering this special status to the Dwarka Expressway around a year back.
When the road is completed, it will be an alternative route between Gurgaon and Delhi and this will lower traffic congestion considerably along the Gurgaon-Delhi Expressway. NHAI has also notified the speed limit of 80 kilometres per hour along the Dwarka Expressway. This is being taken as a major strategy for spurring the project towards eventual completion.
Taking into account the request made by the Chief Minister of Haryana, Manohar Lal Khattar during the Global Investor Summit in March, 2016, the Union Minister has announced the National Highway status for the road. Later in May 2016, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has already provided in-principle approval to the Dwarka Expressway and finally the NHAI has given its notification on the matter. Developers have already welcomed this decision since this will enable a more positive market sentiment for the real estate arena in Gurugram. The NH status will definitely spur better development of infrastructure in the area and will also lead to more investments in new Gurugram according to the Mapsko director, Rahul Singla.
As per the notification issued by the NHAI, the 28 km long Dwarka Expressway starts from the Shiv Murti in Delhi along the National Highway 8 and passes right from the parallel of the Terminal-3 of the Delhi Airport up to the Sector 25 and 26 Junction in Dwarka which is named as Barthal Chowk from where it takes a left and goes right up to Kherki Daula in Gurugram. An NHAI official has stated that the land acquisition procedure has already started in the villages of Bijawan and Bamnauli with 24 hectares of land need to be acquired. The horizontal alignment of the Dwarka Expressway is tailored for speeds of around 80 kilometres per hour. The main roadway has been proposed to have 8 lanes with a 3-lane service road on both sides. At the intersection, there will be a proposed flyover and four-lane underpasses have also been proposed in order to tackle future traffic congestion.
