On August 27, 2023, India built another shelf to accommodate trophies from the World Athletics Championships. Neeraj Chopra won India’s first gold medal in the World Athletics Championship for Men’s Javelin Throw Final, held in Budapest, Hungary. Neeraj Chopra has changed the course of sports history in India by bagging India’s first-ever position in any sport at the World Athletics Championships. Last year, Neeraj Chopra was awarded the silver medal for the same feat.
Neeraj Chopra struck gold with his 88.17-metre throw at the Track and Field Championship in Hungary. Referred to as the “Golden Boy of Indian Sports” Neeraj Chopra has proved to be a beacon of India in international field sports.
Arshad Nadeem from Pakistan and Jakub Vadlejch of the Czech Republic stood second and third by scoring 87.82 metres and 86.67 metres, respectively, giving a proper fight to Neeraj Chopra. India’s top athlete has made the country proud once again with an achievement never before witnessed in Indian sports history.
Neeraj Chopra has been congratulated by Anurag Thakur, India’s Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Indian Army, along with over 143 crore proud Indians. He has proved himself yet again after the various accolades he has received for track and field in India.
Before being awarded the gold medal in the World Athletics Championship, Neeraj Chopra won gold in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, 2022 Diamond League, 2018 Asian Games, 2018 Commonwealth Games, 2017 Asian Championships, 2016 World Junior Championships and World Junior Championships in 2016.
