“New Andhra Pradesh Capital: Chief Minister Drives Sustainable Development”

Reviving the Dream: Andhra Pradesh’s Amaravati Development Accelerated under Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu

Since Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s return to the hot seat in Andhra Pradesh, the development of Amaravati, the proposed new state capital, has been put into top gear. Under his previous tenure, thousands of acres of land were pooled from farmers, creating the foundation for his dream city.

Amaravati is strategically located between the urban centers of Vijayawada and Guntur and spans an impressive 217 square kilometers. Inspired by Singapore’s “sustainable and liveable” features, Naidu sought the expertise of Surbana Jurong, a renowned urban planning consultancy from the island nation, to create a comprehensive masterplan for Amaravati.

Building a Livable City:

The masterplan for Amaravati proposed a well-balanced distribution of land for different purposes. Approximately one-third of the capital area, or around 71 square kilometers, is dedicated to residential spaces, ensuring a home for the city’s future residents.

Amaravati’s focus on green spaces and recreational areas is also evident. The masterplan reserves 30 percent, or 65 square kilometers, of the total area for parks and open spaces, providing ample opportunities for residents to enjoy nature and engage in outdoor activities.

To ensure efficient connectivity throughout the city, 13 percent, or 28 square kilometers, has been allocated for roads and infrastructure. This comprehensive network covers 600 kilometers and is expected to be fully realized by 2050, facilitating seamless travel for residents and visitors alike.

Driving Economic Growth:

Recognizing the importance of a thriving commercial sector, the masterplan designates 11 percent, or 24 square kilometers, of the capital area for commercial establishments. With a focus on creating a business-friendly environment, Amaravati aims to attract companies from various industries, further stimulating economic growth in the region.

Additionally, special developments have been allotted 10 percent, or 22 square kilometers, of the total area. These initiatives can range from innovation hubs to educational institutions, fostering a knowledge-based economy and enabling the city to flourish and remain at the forefront of innovation.

For industrial activities, the masterplan sets aside four percent, or 9 square kilometers, of the capital area. This allocation ensures the creation of employment opportunities and facilitates the establishment of industries that will contribute to the overall development of Amaravati.

The Road Ahead:

As Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu strives to transform his vision into reality, the accelerated development of Amaravati is set to make significant progress. The commitment to robust land utilization, planned infrastructure, and the allocation of specialized areas will undoubtedly attract investors and residents, ultimately shaping Amaravati into a sustainable and prosperous state capital.

With the revival of Amaravati’s development, the dreams and aspirations of thousands of farmers who gladly pooled their lands for this ambitious project are becoming a reality. As the city takes shape, it will not only catapult Andhra Pradesh into a new era but also serve as a shining example of urban planning and development for the rest of the country and the world.
