The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) is making significant strides to enhance connectivity options for the Noida International Airport in Jewar, with plans to connect the airport to NH-34, a major highway in Uttar Pradesh. Discussions with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) have kicked off to explore potential route alignments.
YEIDA Explores New Road Link for Noida International Airport
The road link is expected to improve accessibility to the airport from neighboring districts, with NH-34 serving as a vital connection to cities like Haridwar, Meerut, and Bulandshahr. While the final route will depend on a feasibility study and the detailed project report (DPR), initial discussions with NHAI have been positive.
Compromise on Initial Route Raises Concerns
In 2023, the government acquired land for the airport’s first phase, cutting off direct access to Sikandrabad via the Jewar-Sikandrabad road. An alternative route has been established, but this detour involves passing through multiple villages, adding several kilometers to the journey. The proposed link road is crucial in addressing these concerns.
Potential Route Alignments and Road Links
A possible route under consideration is a link road between the airport and Khurja, which connects to NH-34. However, the UP Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEDA) has proposed a new speedway connecting the Ganga Expressway with the airport, which will interface with the Yamuna Expressway via NH-34.
Progress on Current Connectivity Plans
The government’s connectivity plan is already underway, with a nearly completed 31 km stretch linking the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway to the airport from Ballabhgarh near Faridabad. These efforts are set to improve accessibility to the Noida International Airport and facilitate seamless connectivity for the region’s growing industry and commerce.
