NHAI Sets New Records for Highway Construction and Capital Expenditure
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has achieved significant milestones in the construction of highways in recent years. In FY24, the NHAI surpassed its own record by constructing a total length of 6,644 km, which is 20% more than the 5,544 km constructed in FY23 and a remarkable 53% more than the 4,331 km constructed in FY22. This accomplishment demonstrates the authority’s commitment to expanding and improving India’s road infrastructure.
Unprecedented Capital Expenditure
In addition to the remarkable increase in highway construction, the NHAI also recorded an all-time high capital expenditure in FY24. The authority invested a total of Rs.2,070 billion, marking a 20% increase compared to the Rs.1,730 billion spent in FY23 and Rs.1,720 billion in FY22. Looking ahead, the NHAI has set an ambitious target of constructing around 5,000 km in FY25. Santosh Kumar Yadav, IAS and Chairman of NHAI, discussed their future plans and stated, “We have regularly been monitoring projects at various levels and are in touch with state governments and stakeholders to resolve any issues pertaining to the development of national highways in regions across the country.”
