NHAI Sets New Records for Highway Construction and Expenditure in FY24

NHAI Sets New Records for Highway Construction and Capital Expenditure

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has achieved significant milestones in the construction of highways in recent years. In FY24, the NHAI surpassed its own record by constructing a total length of 6,644 km, which is 20% more than the 5,544 km constructed in FY23 and a remarkable 53% more than the 4,331 km constructed in FY22. This accomplishment demonstrates the authority’s commitment to expanding and improving India’s road infrastructure.

Unprecedented Capital Expenditure

In addition to the remarkable increase in highway construction, the NHAI also recorded an all-time high capital expenditure in FY24. The authority invested a total of Rs.2,070 billion, marking a 20% increase compared to the Rs.1,730 billion spent in FY23 and Rs.1,720 billion in FY22. This substantial financial investment highlights the NHAI’s dedication to bolstering the country’s road network and reducing transportation barriers.

Exceeding Expectations

Looking ahead, the NHAI has set an ambitious target of constructing around 5,000 km in FY25. However, given the authority’s excellent track record and consistent progress, it is confident in surpassing this goal and setting yet another record. Santosh Kumar Yadav, IAS and Chairman of NHAI, discussed their future plans and stated, “We have regularly been monitoring projects at various levels and are in touch with state governments and stakeholders to resolve any issues pertaining to the development of national highways in regions across the country.”

Continued Commitment to Infrastructure

The NHAI’s achievements in highway construction and capital expenditure highlight the government’s strong commitment to infrastructure development, driving economic growth and regional connectivity. The construction of better roads not only enhances transportation efficiency but also presents opportunities for employment generation and trade expansion.

Enhancing Connectivity and Economic Growth

Better highways have a direct and significant impact on connectivity, enabling smoother movement of goods and services across the country. By improving connectivity, the NHAI efforts contribute to reducing transportation costs, fostering trade and commerce, and stimulating economic growth in all regions. Seamless connectivity is vital for driving industries and attracting investments to areas that were previously inaccessible or challenging to reach.

Improving Lives and Livelihoods

The development of a solid road infrastructure network not only facilitates faster transportation but also brings far-reaching benefits to communities and citizens. It increases accessibility to essential services such as healthcare and education, uplifts rural and economically backward regions, and promotes tourism and local businesses. Hence, the NHAI’s commitment to enhancing national highways ensures a better quality of life and improved livelihood opportunities for countless individuals throughout the country.

In conclusion, NHAI has set new records with its exceptional performance in highway construction and capital expenditure commitments. Its tireless efforts continue to pave the way for improved connectivity, regional development, economic growth, and the overall well-being of the country. The continuous focus on infrastructure development reflects the government’s commitment to building a strong foundation for a prosperous and inclusive India.
