Are you looking for a place to rent in Mumbai? We have great news for you! The Mumbai Police have recently announced that you no longer require a No Objection Certificate or NOC to rent a house in the city. This means you can now easily find a place to live in the City of Dreams without worrying about getting a NOC.
Previously it was compulsory to obtain a No Objection Certificate to rent an apartment and upload all the details of the potential tenant on the dedicated portal for the police to do the needful. But as per the latest reports, the police have waived the requirement of a No Objection Certificate. And now, as no NOC is required, flat owners or landlords still need to provide important details about their tenants for police records but in a different way.
So, if you are a landlord or house owner, who’s planning to rent out a property, then you must follow the below-mentioned guidelines:
The Mumbai police released a public notification, saying that citizens can provide information about house/flat on rent either:
- By applying online
- By submitting the essential documents to the concerned police station or
- By sending an application to the concerned police station through a registered post
The online application facility is made available so that the public can furnish information about the house on rent to the Mumbai Police within the limits of the Mumbai Police.
The Mumbai Police added that an OTP would be sent to the flat owner’s contact number. Also, the address of the rented property and the landlord must not be the same. Moreover, both the landlord and tenant must ensure that the information provided to the Police is true.

Furnishing false information is a serious offence and can lead to legal repercussions. The Mumbai Police has made it clear that availing this service is free of cost. Any person demanding money in exchange for the same should be immediately reported to the local police station.
Please note that violators of this rule will be held liable to face the consequences of their actions.
