The Noida International Airport, also known as Jewar airport, is on track to open its doors to passengers in October, with construction rapidly nearing completion. This highly anticipated project is set to become the largest airport in India and the third-largest in the National Capital Region (NCR), following Delhi airport and Hindon airbase in Ghaziabad. Unprecedented Connectivity for Ease of Travel To ensure seamless connectivity, the airport will be linked by six access roads and a rapid rail-cum-metro system, along with the introduction of pod taxis. This comprehensive transportation network aims to provide convenience and excellent accessibility to passengers from various parts of the NCR. Greenfield Expressway and More The authorities are leaving no stone unturned to enhance the airport’s connectivity. A 31-kilometer greenfield expressway is currently under construction to connect the airport with the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway at Ballabhgarh. Moreover, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is building a 750-meter eight-lane road to connect the expressway with the airport, as confirmed by Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) CEO Arun Vir Singh. Improved Roadways and VIP Access In the coming months, significant progress is expected in terms of road connectivity projects. By June 15, four of the eight lanes on the road constructed by NHAI are set to be operational. The remaining four lanes are projected to become fully functional on or before August 15. In addition to these developments, the NHAI has been entrusted with three other important connectivity projects related to the airport. An 8.2-kilometer long and 30-meter wide road is being constructed towards the north and east of the airport, connecting the airport cargo terminal with the Yamuna Expressway. This key infrastructure initiative, costing Rs 630 million, is expected to be completed within the next eight months. Moreover, the YEIDA CEO announced plans for a VIP access road exclusively designated for prominent guests and use during emergencies. This route will provide a dedicated and speedy approach from the Yamuna Expressway to the Noida Airport. Future Transit Plans With the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the Rapid Rail-cum-Metro Rail already approved and sent for government recommendation on funding patterns, residents of the NCR can anticipate a much-improved public transportation system to the Noida airport. Subsequently, a feasibility study is underway for the implementation of pod taxis and monorail for the region, with results estimated to be available within the next two years. Delhiites eagerly anticipate the inauguration of the Noida International Airport, poised to play a significant role in fostering economic growth and employment opportunities in the area, while simultaneously providing a world-class travel experience to passengers. As October approaches, the countdown to this transformative infrastructure project draws closer, promising a brighter future for India’s aviation industry and the National Capital Region as a whole.
