Noida International Airport Completes Calibration of Instrument Landing System and Precision Approach Path Indicator
Noida International Airport (NIA) has achieved a significant milestone in its journey towards full operational readiness. The airport recently concluded the calibration of its Instrument Landing System (ILS) and Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI). This calibration process, which began on October 10 and concluded on October 14, involved the assistance of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and was supported by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to ensure compliance with the highest safety standards.
The ILS plays a crucial role in providing precise guidance to pilots during approach and landing procedures, especially in low visibility conditions. By offering accurate and reliable information, this system allows for smooth operations and helps in minimizing the risk of delays. Furthermore, the PAPI system, with its runway-adjacent lights, serves as an essential tool for pilots by providing visual cues to maintain the correct descent angle during the final approach.
A Step Closer to Operational Launch
With the successful calibration of the ILS and PAPI, the Noida International Airport is nearing its operational launch. This development brings anticipation to the region as Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the airport on November 26, 2021. What sets NIA apart is its expected operationalization much earlier than the projected capacity limits of the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Strategic Location
Strategically located, Noida International Airport aims to serve as a vital transportation hub. It is situated approximately 72 km from the existing Indira Gandhi International Airport, allowing for improved accessibility and reducing travel time for millionsof passengers. Additionally, it boasts close proximity to key cities and commercial hubs such as Noida, Agra (which is approximately 130 km away), and the Multi-Modal Logistics Hub in Dadri (located just 90 km away). This strategic positioning makes NIA an enticing prospect for both domestic and international travelers.
The completion of the calibration process is a critical achievement for Noida International Airport. With its state-of-the-art facilities and commitment to operational excellence, it is poised to become a major player in the aviation sector. As the airport progresses towards its operational launch, the focus on safety and adherence to international standards bodes well for the growth and development of aerial connectivity in the region.
